Hello, I just joined this website. I graduated with my BSN in August and unfortunately I failed the NCLEX. I have been very upset over it, mainly because I feel I did everything right in preparing for the test.- I honestly do not know what I would do differently if I decided to take it again. In nursing school, I was on the deans list and had a great gpa. Is it possible that failing in my case was a sign that it is not meant to be?

No. Don't think that way. You spent all that time in school and finished like you said on the Dean's List. If it wasn't supposed to be, something would have happened along the way to have prevented you from finishing. Tons of people don't pass the NCLEX. Keep studying. Do as many questions in as many study guides as you can. I did them every day without fail. Don't let this discourage you. Just because you didn't pass the NCLEX, doesn't make you a 'failure.' It just makes you more determined to take it again and try harder. Don't give up. You've come this far, you can do it! :)

You will actually find that there are quite a few that were straight "A" students that did not pass the first time. NCLEX has no relation to how you did in school, it is a beast all alone. There is nothing else like it, and I am sure that there are many that are quite happy about that.
What did you use when you prepared in the past, and how did you use it?

Some of the best nurses I've ever known failed NCLEX the first time."Book smarts" have zero to do with bedside nursing- the NCLEX is just your ticket to get in. Use a different review this time around and keep taking those practice tests until you consistently test in the passing range. Good luck and hang in there!

I also graduated with my BSN in August. Thankfully, I finally got tired of mentally stressing over this stupid test and just went and took it---passed with 75 questions. I don't have any real advice for you except for this---not passing NCLEX means zero about whether you should be a nurse. I was never a big studier---hated nursing school and its drama---not even sure if I'm particularly enjoying nursing or ever will--and I passed. See, it doesn't mean anything except that you take tests well. My set of questions wasn't at all knowledge based---they were all priority and in my opinion, fairly common sense. There are thousands of questions in that Q bank--what if you had a different set? Who knows...
I realize it's easy for me to say--but if you still LIKE the idea of nursing---brush it off and take the test again. Enjoy the best you can the waiting period and don't do anything differently except keep doing questions if it helps you and try again!
I just wanted to thank all that replied! Its fairly obvious that I am looking for answers that only I can answer. I just think its great to have a community such as this--regardless of my decision. Thanks for the input and suggestions-- I am grateful.
