Just wanted to know what are some of the recommendations the upper-classmen care to share regarding the UMB BSN program at Shady Grove. Especially regarding clinical sites (some of the locations/experiences), what is the recommended equipment (i.e. which stethoscope, bp cuff, etc to get), parking, recommended texts and other survival tips.
Thanks!

I love it for the most part. parking is free on campus. once you are accepted, your welcome packet will include all info about what you'll need and UMANS (student nursing org will have a sale for scopes etc) uniforms are on you, but patches and name tags do need to be ordered from the bookstore but text books are usually purchased from where ever is least expensive.
get yourself a crockpot - it makes life much more simple for meals. lots and lots of deep breathing - it can be an overwhelming experience but well worth it!
Thanks for your reply...
I have a few more questions....How did you go about picking your classes for the first semester? Next semester there is a clash making it impossible to follow the suggested plan. I plan on taking 304, 315, 333 and 405. Have you taken 405 would it be difficult to keep up without any previous nursing classes?
most people take fundies, patho, assessment and research their first semester. Informatics is one that can be taken later on - usually the second semester. its an online class at shady grove. i am actually taking 405 next semester - as i split my program into 5 semesters so that i am not taking peds, ob, and psych all together due to the fact that they all have clinical sections with the class part. So for me, 405 will be taken in my third out five semesters and there are no issues. :)
For next semester there is a time conflict with Research and Fundamentals Lab so I figure I can take research in the summer and take informatics in the first semester. But if you've heard that it is difficult to keep up in informatics without any experience which class would u sugguest I substitute instead?
there are usually at least 3 sections of both fundies and assessment labs. Call/email the office to confirm that the information that you have is correct.
I was just going off of what was posted on the schedule of classes. But I will call this afternoon...Thanks
that's your best bet - the administration staff is awesome and quick to answer questions! I would not worry too much about labs asso with required first semester classes - they will get you into your (required) lab!
