UMASS Worcester GEP 2016

Published

Hi Everybody,

I am excited to say that I have been admitted to the Graduate Entry Pathway (GEP) at the UMass Worcester Graduate School of Nursing. I am in the Family Nurse Practitioner Track and am scheduled to begin in August of 2016.

I will be moving to Worcester from the Boston area with my girlfriend, and I am curious to connect to others who have been admitted to this cohort.

It would be great to just chat and get to know some people before the program starts, but I'm also trying to do some research on more logistical matters (housing, transportation etc.) and I'm really curious what people's plans are for the coming year.

Drop me a line if this message pertains to you, and maybe we can connect.

Thanks, Jake

Hi Jake,

Congratulations!! I just found out I'll be in the acute care track. Good idea starting this thread.

So, Worcester county can be pretty good spot.

First things first, lots of grocery stores near UMass and it's much cheaper than Boston and most other cities. Craigslist has a good lot on there and the announcement boards in the hospital and the school side are always full of postings for places to rent. Also, short 15 minutes trips get you into rural areas that are a great relaxing spots (orchards, family owned restaurants on farms, etc) and there are plenty of coffee/tea shops and lots of gyms. The Worcester Art Museum is also a gem most people don't realize. There's a cool old train station that is hosts a short train ride from Boston and buses that will take you to NYC. Public transit around the city- I don't know it well, but it shuttles a lot of patients into the hospital so I'm sure it's fine.

Definitely not as cool as Boston, but I think you'll like it.

Best of luck getting everything together. Welcome to Worcester (soon),

Lydia

Hi guys,

Congrats on your acceptances! I'll also be joining the FNP track. Needless to say, I'm pumped for the fall.

I'm living in Boston right now but will most likely move to the Worcester area once the program starts. I'd love to reach out to everyone in the program and potentially find some fellow roommates. And of course I'd love to connect with everyone, seeing as we'll be spending a lot of time together!

Looking forward to hearing back!

Molly

Hi guys!

Congrats to everyone! I'm excited to say I will also be apart of the FNP track, and cannot wait until the fall! I'm from Amherst Mass, but am looking to move to Worcester once classes begin. I am also interested in living with others in the program, and getting to know everyone in general!

Thanks,

Brianna

Hey everyone!

I'm so happy you created this thread. I'm Stephanie and I will be attending UMASS this August too for the acute care track. I live in Leominster which is about 15 minutes from Worcester so I will probably just be commuting. I am so excited to start and get to know all of you it's going to be a great four years

Hi, and congratulations everyone! I'm Becky and have also been accepted to the acute care track. I live in Needham/work in Boston currently, but my fiance and I will move to the Worcester area. I'm so excited and can't wait to meet you all!!

Hi all,

So cool to have an idea about people in the program already. I live local too (hence the almost comically long description of the area), so I will probably be commuting too.

This morning I was talking to some nurses about what brought them through the rough parts of nursing school. One woman (she's a great nurse and she was resource today), leaned back and said "My study group, definitely. They kept me accountable when I didn't show up."

I'm not saying we'll all be best friends or anything (not saying we won't either), but there's strength in numbers and all that :p Just passing on what I heard today.

That said, is anyone around to grab a coffee in the coming months and swap ideas? I work and I'm in school so my schedule is weird to work with, but no harm in asking.

Lydia

Hi - glad to see this thread has been created. I've been accepted to the FNP track and put my deposit down at UMass, though I am waiting to hear from other schools to make a final decision. Is anyone else in this boat? I am also living in Boston, and since it seems like there are a number of us in the area, would anyone like to meet?

Catherine

Great idea Lydia and Catherine! I would love to meet up.

Catherine, I was in that boat for a few days, but I think I've decided on UMass after a lot of thought about all of the different programs that I applied to. I asked the UMass admissions office to connect me with a couple of students, since I want to ask some questions from the student perspective before fully committing.

I think it would be great to connect with anyone who can make it... This coming week is hectic for me, would anyone like to meet the week following? Sometime during the weekend of Feb 5 - Feb 7? Not sure of the best way to organize. I'm still unable to send private messages since I have a new account.

Hi guys, I'll definitely join in on meeting up! I live in the Boston area but wouldn't mind driving out to Worcester if need be. I work three nights a week and otherwise my schedule is pretty flexible. I'm free the weekend of Feb 5-7 except for having to work that Saturday night.

I'm also waiting to hear back from some other schools, but I'm 99% set on UMass. It seems like a great program, the faculty are so helpful and welcoming, it's affiliated with UMass Memorial- not to mention how cheap it is! I don't think other schools will be sending out letters until late February or March.

Would you guys want to create a facebook group so it's a little easier to get to know eachother?

There's a fb group named "umass med gep class of 2019" but the description says 2020...if that's not it then I think making a group is a great idea.
