UK Nurse Registration Full Application and Assessment stage before OSCE

Published

Hi People

I am a UK born citizen trained in Australia hence I am going via the overseas trained route. I passed my CBT test and am in the full application and assessment stage.

I am interested in sharing information with people who are also in this stage of the application.

I commenced my application in 2013 under the old process which was rejected due to lack of clinical hours. I received a letter from NMC advising me of the new process. Like many people on this forum, this entire process has been long, drawnout, frustrating and tedious for me!!!!!!!

Hi everyone,

@NURSE. ,RN

Yes I must say things are moving faster with NMC this September lol. My last document ( Registration) was posted as received just 10 days after it was posted from the Philippines. So when I checked my account on September 9 I was surprised to see document received. And I rang nmc this morning when will my documents be placed on the queue and she replied it was on the queue since September 3. Lo and behold miracles do happen even with nmc lol.

So let us hope this is a positive move for us all.

Good luck and God bless everyone.

Good for you! Still worrying why they haven't received my PRC verification yet, when it was sent with all my other docs which have been noted as received. Hmm.

Evansje,

Good to meet you! I am planning on being in London for my time with CTN as well! I have a friend there and wanted to be a bit stationary to be able to establish a life instead of transferring around The UK every 3 months. I can't wait meet you! and nursemickey as well!

So I haven't received any feed back on which FBI channeler has already been part of an approved license, but I have chosen to go with National Background Check Incorporated. I called them and chatted with a representative that informed me that people have used this company for a UK nursing license in the past and that the final paperwork includes the FBI seal and is signed by an FBI representative. Other companies haven't been able to guarantee that for me. I don't know if any of this is official, so wish me luck! It sounds like it would be good to receive an email copy as well as a print copy so that I have an original to take over for my OSCE testing when that time comes.

It seems like CTN should have a list of approved channelers but they don't... so strange.

I hope to be there by January too! We'll see though!

Cheers!

evansje and ArizonaRN,

So great to hear of more people with CTN! I would love to be in London for at least part of my time, but I also wouldn't mind experiencing some other parts of the country as well.

I would think that if you're going with a channeler listed on the FBI's website then it's probably pretty official. Especially if they said it comes with a seal and everything. And in the end, you would hope that the NMC would be willing to work with you at least a LITTLE, since after all it's their fault that you don't have the original.

Since you guys will be flying out there and completing the process before I will, you'll have to keep us updated on how everything goes with the visa, OSCE, and everything else :)

Thanks for the input, and hope to meet you in the future!!

Hi evansje (and Nursemicky and ArizonaRNLC!)

So glad to hear of some others working with CTN! I am planning on doing exactly the same thing as you: OSCE in November. Come back, enjoy the holidays and then start in early January.

If I do that, does my police clearance need to within 3 months of the OSCE or 3 months of my start date?

Also, in the application packet it mentions having to take "UK Mandatory Training". Have you looked into that at all? I'm thinking about taking that class while I'm over there taking my OSCE.

oh, and I have asked to be placed in London, so I'm hoping that's where I end up

Hi @Ashley

I'm also interested in the OSCE review as I have not worked here in the UK NHS even as HCA. I'm on the assessment queue Sept 3 so still waiting for my DL. If you decide to go for the review can you share here your experience. I know of some who are considering it so some insight will be helpful

Thanks and good luck.

After talking to CTN about the background checks it is my understanding that since the NMC has already approved your application as long as you bring the original to be verified (even if it's older than 3 months) you should be fine. If you do bring a newer one too it should be ok as long as it says the same thing as the first one since it will essentially be an updated record (just like if you renewed your RN license in the past few months bring the old and the new). However, CTN needs the checks to be within 3 months for their files. They asked me to get new ones for them since mine are from last fall. You might want to check with them just to make sure. I'm having to get new ones anyway since the NMC has my originals.

About the mandatory training: CTN gave me info on 2 different companies to use so ask them for it. They both cover the same thing (it sounds like typical training that we have to do in the US too: cpr, safe manual handling, infection control, etc.). One of them is an all day course that you don't need to do any prep for and the other is one that has some online stuff you can do beforehand and then go to a class for a few hours. I haven't decided which one I'm doing yet (whichever is cheaper probably) but I'm planning on doing it when I go over for the OSCE.

Like Nursemickey said, I assume if you use any of the channelers listed on the FBI website then you should be fine. I went through Accurate Biometrics and am just waiting on the hard copy to reach me.

Good luck!

Hi.... I am living in UK since 2 yrs, can anyone guide me on how to get police clearance certificate from UK.

Hi.... I am living in UK since 2 yrs, can anyone guide me on how to get police clearance certificate from UK.

Hello,

You can use Disclosure Scotland (basic disclosure) which will cost you £25.00 and the process will take 2 weeks maximum. Another way is through ACRO subject access for £10.00 but it'll take 40 days to process.

God bless😇

Hi, i had to sign in to give you information regarding the mandatory training you talked about, i have been in the Uk for over two years and can give you some pretty reliable information. you do not need to pay any money for mandatory trainings, the organization you will be working with usually make arrangements for you to do all your mandatory trainings before you start any work, also some organizations do not accept training from certain companies and have their own reliable trainers. hope that helps

I would advise you not to quit your job before living, am not sure how long it takes to get your PIN after the OSCE exam but i do know that getting a job once you have your Pin is not an issues, there are many recruiter and you can sign in for NHS job alerts and you will get job alerts everyday. When you get a job they will usually give you a sponsor letter that you will need to change your visa category and once you get your teir 2 visa (work permit) you can always talk to your employers to give you some time to start so you can go home and sort out things. mean while you can sign up for NHS job alert so you can start making choices
