Hi all, I graduate from my nursing school in London this year and would like to go straight to Louisiana to work as a nurse and live there. I have some questions about this:
-What companies/hospitals are known to take international new graduates? or more likely to.
-Which are known to offer relocation services? Like provide me a temporary place to stay while earning enough money to find another.
I'm currently looking into the state's requirements for international graduates and am going to contact Ochsner and other employers about the above questions, I just thought it wouldn't hurt to ask here too. New Orleans is a big attraction for me wanting to move there. It's history, culture etc :)
Thanks for any and all responses!

Do you have clinical and theory in adult med-surg, geriatrics, psych/ mental health, pediatrics & obstetrics? US nurses are generalist trained. You cannot be licensed in the US if your transcripts don't reflect theory. & clinical in all required areas. UK nurses are specialty trained and generally lack hours in the other required areas.
There is no incentive for employers to sponsor overseas nurses especially inexperienced new grads. You are not likely to find any sponsorships that reimburse for travel & relocation. Experienced US nurses cannot secure such packages in the current economy with a shortage of nursing jobs with an abundance of nurses seeking employment.
In the UK nursing courses are split into 3 main branches which are child, adult and mental health nursing. I do adult which is the most general taking in parts of child and mental branches. Hmm I see, I thought so. I'd probably have to work at least two years here first getting exp. Thanks for your reply nonetheless JustBeachy

But you need to make sure your transcripts show both clinical and theory hours in Paeds, Mental Health, Obstetrics and Adult. There are currently no courses available in the UK to make these hours up and most appear to have issues with Obstetrics and Paeds
Damn you're right. Guess making the move is not possible at the moment. I thought maybe if I'd apply to a strictly adult-based clinical area I'd be possibly accepted but this doesn't seem to be the case. Thanks silverdragon
You are welcome. Having trained in both the old and new way of the UK nursing I am sure it was changed to try and stop many looking at moving abroad. Working on medical wards in the UK having mental health experience I felt it was still important as people with mental health issues will still have medical problems and I was always worried that a wrong word or gesture may cause an issue.

It wouldn't matter what area you intended on working on, you would have to meet the requirements for a nursing license which would include theory and clinical hours in all areas.
