UK citizen thinking of studying nursing in Philippines

Published

My ethnicity is Filipino and I'm a British citizen. Ive taken my GCSEs and I'm awaiting my A-level results. I want to take up Nursing and later apply to work in America as most of my family live in the USA.

I'm currently on the fence on whether I should pursue nursing at a UK university or a university in the Philippines. I found out that UK educated nurses have problems working in America as UK nurses only have specialist training. So nursing students only specialise in either adult/child/mental health nursing. Whereas I believe US nurses have generalist training (trained in adult/child/midwifery/mental health).

Hence why I'm now considering going back to the Philippines to study nursing as I would have a generalist training and it would increase my chances of being qualified to work in America.

However I'm worried that I may later still have difficulty in entering the US and even the UK (despite being a citizen) to work as a nurse after studying in the Philippines, as obviously my credentials aren't from the UK/US.

Can anyone give me advise on this?
