UCLA MECN Fall 2014?

Published

Hi- Is anyone applying to UCLA's MECN program for next fall?

April Fool's! No acceptance letter, just messing with you guys. I didn't have the heart to wait until tomorrow to let you know I was joking. Lol.

Aghghhhh!!! I almost had a heart attack!

Sorry guys - I wrote my e-mail too hastily. The reason I said the week of the 14th is because I called admissions to ask and that is what I was told.

Granted, I've been given other dates that were inaccurate but hopefully since we're so near the end, that will be the week!

Does anyone plan on working while in the program (part time, per diem etc etc) ?

Well, as I'm not qualified yet as any healthcare professional, I will not be working during the program. I'm sure it's possible though, even if it might be really tough to work, study and do classes and clinicals.

I'm going to try and work per diem. I really want to keep my foot in the door, but we'll see because I think the minimum is like 5 or 6 shifts a month, and it would be in South Orange county....

I got a call today from a 310 number today! I was so excited I threw my weights down...Wrong number. :banghead:

I'm just wondering since I am working full time as a Research Asst. right now so we will see if I'll do part time.... or just focus on school full time(:

CSULA actually recommends that students in their ELMN program work while finishing the post-licensure portion of the program. I thought that was crazy, to actually make a program that almost requires it students to maintain a full-time job while finishing up the rest of the degree. They suggest it because it's ultimately an NP program, and who is going to hire a new-grad NP with no experience?

If I can work and maintain a great GPA ( which will be difficult) I will. I do want to keep my foot in the door too, I think it's a smart idea to work as CSULA is suggesting. The job market is tough and rough so anything to make getting a job smoother is helpful. it's a catch-22!

Many NP programs require 2000 hours of RN experience before applying. The last time I checked UCLA's traditional post Masters NP required it. CSULA said many folks are able to do it once you are thru the prelicensure portion. I will do what I am capable of, but until I start my program I am not sure what that will be.

I would just like to know already! haha it's been way too long.

I wonder if mid-April is also equated to second week of April... hmmmm. #firstworldproblems
