Was wondering if any body has applied to this school? And how hard was it to get in? Trying to apply to the Fall 2011 class. Just wanted to know what my chances are and how hard it is to get in and is it a good program?

I'm a senior nursing student (graduating in 2 weeks) enrolled in the basic program at UCF, College of Nursing (CON). I'm very satisfied with my education from the CON. We have very passionate and brilliant faculty and also the highest NCLEX passing rate in the state. GPA was one of the biggest determinants of acceptance when I applied (I had a 3.8 but I know some people that got in with a 3.4). Now they are using an entrance exam in addition to looking at your GPA (especially how you did in your prereqs). UCF-CON has an extensive criminal background screening process. This is the first thing they look at when you apply: there is no use going through nursing school if you can't sit for the NCLEX due to criminal history. If you're currently a UCF student and if you are applying for the first time these factors will give you an advantage. Good luck!!! and let me know if you want more info...

Let me correct myself. UCF has one of the highest NCLEX pass rates in the state of Florida. I personally looked at the numbers myself after I posted. I think some folks may consider us the highest because we have one of the larger programs with the highest pass rate. University of Tampa has 100% pass rate with 56 students testing. UCF pass rate (2nd highest) was 98.15% with 206 students testing. Other schools have 100% too, but they only had 1-5 students testing.

NCLEX pass rate is important but so is where you want to be. For instance if Shands is your dream hospital than go to UF... becoming a tech or completeing your senior practicum at the hospital you want to work at is a great advantage when you're applying for a job. I know thinking about this seems silly when all you want is to get into to nursing school, but if you can and the program is good go to a nursing school near where you want to work in the future. As you may know the major hospitals in the Orlando area are Orlando Health and Florida Hospital.

Hey, I'm applying for Fall 2011 as well. I just took the TEAS and made an 87%, I have A's in all but 2 of my prerequs(they were B's), and have a 3.5 gpa. Does anyone know if I have a good shot of getting in?
