UBC Nurse Practitioner requirements?

Published

Hi everyone! I noticed that the UBC Nurse practitioner program states that “3 years of clinical registered nursing (at minimum)” is required. Does anyone know if this means bedside nursing for a minimum of 3 years? I’d like to ideally do bedside and then switch over to outpatient nursing, but I’m not sure if the entire 3 years has to be in acute care. Although, I do understand that it would be better. Any information is appreciated! Thank you.

Best to ask the school.  However, IMO it likely refers to hands on patient care, making clinical decisions.  As an NP, the fact that I have worked as an RN helps shape the care I provide and gives me insight what will work in practice.

I was recently admitted to the program and I do not have 3 years of acute care experience- my experience has varied and includes inpatient, outpatient and research. However, whether having 3 years of acute care experience increases your chances of being admitted, I don't quite know. You could probably ask the university about that.
