UBC BSN September 2019 Applicants

Nursing Students School Programs

Hi everybody! I haven't found an active discussion thread for September 2019 applicants to UBC's BSN program yet, so here is one!

You're very welcome. And yeah, I don't mind questions at all!. As with clinical being on Saturdays/Sundays is if you have clinicals on Saturday and Sunday, you will get 2 days off from weekdays. If you have clinicals during weekdays, you will get the weekend off. But these days change every term and it may not be same every year. Anyway, I can talk more about clinical if you have specific question about that.

Regarding program workload, before I came to nursing, I actually did graduate degree. But even comparing with that, the workload is heavy, especially the 1st term. I was definitely overwhelmed the first term but it got much better from the 2nd term personally. My friends also agreed 1st term was the hardest then it gets better gradually. I didn't go to UBC for undergraduate but comparing to full time undergraduate, 1st term definitely has heavier workload imo. But you can definitely find balance with your life once you get used to it.

Hi EtherealRailgun!

This might be a silly question but how did you take notes during the program? I know there’s ample research on retaining information better when taking notes by hand... but I’m trying to go paperless to be more environmentally friendly and save my back lol. Thanks for all the information, it really has been helpful! ?

For those on the wait list who got in, when did your SSC update so you could accept your offer? I got my email on Thursday and it still shows I did not get accepted. I'm eager to get it sorted!

I got accepted on June 10th and my SSC updated on June 17th. It was hard to wait that long lol, but just be patient. Congratulations!

Same! I’m waiting for it to update but am stressing since I only have until the 27th (thursday) to accept it lol

Thanks! And I'm only give 7 days to accept the offer before it goes to someone else (June 27). That is noted multiple times in the email. You needing to wait 7 days for SSC to update makes me nervous.

I’m in the same boat! So happy to have been accepted though! I was #37 and thought I wouldn’t make it, congrats to everyone that got in! I’m hoping they will update ssc a bit faster to give us enough time to accept, I’m guessing if it doesn’t that won’t cause a problem though, especially if you’ve already submitted the other acceptance form?

I sent Ruxandra an email asking when SSC will be updated and have completed all the Admission Offer Acceptance Requirements (including signing the Offer Agreement and uploading it) and BSN Program Requirements. I'm sure it'll be fine but I'll feel much better when SSC confirms.

Hey guys! Back in May during initial acceptances they said SSC would be updated in 10 days, but it was done in 2-3. So expect it to be updated way before!!

Great to hear!

Hm, maybe to be sure, just email Ruxandra and let her know! Then tell us what she says! Personally, I'm sure we only send transcripts up to the time of application with any in-progress pre-req courses or credits that are counted in our admissions average, but it's good to confirm!

Hey mb96!

Ruxandra got back to me. I do have to submit a transcript at the end of August when I finish my current courses. I also thought I'd only need transcripts up to in-progress courses at the time of application O.o

Anyway, thanks for thinking this through with me!

Hello everyone, I just graduated this year from UBC nursing. I could help answer some questions if there are any regarding program or anything. One thing I want to mention is I was also on waiting list (my number was late 20s I believe?) and was informed before the June 15th. I know people could even get accepted up to the day of orientation so you never know!!

Hi again Ethereal!

I have another question ?

From what I understand, UBC BSN transfers 48 credits from previous studies. How did you get to choose those 48 credits? Do their GPA transfer as well or just their credits?

Second question is about NRSG 330. On the grade distribution for 2018 W, no one has been able to achieve above 85-89% with most people getting 72-84%. What makes its average noticeably lower than other courses? What is your advice for doing well in this course?

O.o Well I’m taking ENGL 1127 and it doesn’t transfer to UBC though (I took it at Langara Summer Sem for fun since I don’t need it anymore for Langara Nursing — I didn’t want to waste the grant I received), and I know they only use “university-transferable” credits. For example, I attended SFU and Corpus Christi before attending UBC and Ruxandra told me previously that I didn’t have to send transcripts for those schools since they were already processed as transfer credit. I’m still a current UBC student who is registering for BSN on Tuesday. Do you think my ENGL 1127 will count? I thought I was done with the application process! I’m scared now in case I get a bad grade in ENGL 1127 (I don’t think I’ll get a C, but I wonder how a grade in the B range will factor into my admissions average). Yikes...
