Hi Everyone,
Just thought I'd start a thread for all possible UAB Summer 2021, NP prospects. Has any one applied thus far? If so, what is your concentration and stats (GPA, yrs of exp, etc) I'd love to stay connected as we progress on this journey!

Finishing up application now. Just proofreading essay and I think I'm done. Applying for the AGACNP with RNFA sub-specialty.
6+ years experience (2.5 years med-surg, 4 years OR). GPA, I think if I calculated correctly, should be around 3.8 for last 60 hrs. Super nervous, but super excited at the same time. Hope we all get in ?
@ShockEmRN I am in the proof reading phase now also! I’ve never had to write a statement with References LOL. Wishing us both the best of luck! I’m overall a 3.35 undergrad However I believe last 60 is about 3.45. I have 3yrs exp in Pysch. 1.5 as an RN. I’m currently a clinical nurse supervisor on a psych unit. Hopefully this gives my application a boost!
@1glamrn Oh yes, the references LOL. Trying to decide if I need cited sources as well and trying to get this APA format down. Which program are you applying to? And yes, I absolutely think the supervisor position will give you a boost, they love to see leadership skills.
@ShockEmRN I am applying for the Psychiatric NP concentration. I believe the instruction on essay suggest including evidence based so that’s why I included references. I have about 3 in text citations as well. I’m hoping it correctly formatted also LOL
are you applying to any other schools?
@1glamrn True, guess I do need to add a citation in there just in case. The paper is definitely taking me the longest. This is the only school I'm applying to, only program that I know of that does this dual specialty.
@ShockEmRN I understand trying to find another institution offering that degree might be quite limiting. Same here the paper was the most time consuming, for sure!

Hi!
I am also applying to the AGACNP with RNFA program. I have 2.5 years of OR experience. 3.62 GPA. This is the only program I have found as well that caters to an interest in surgery and includes the RNFA.
I'm planning to submit my application later tonight after reading over my essay one last time. Fingers crossed! I heard we will find out around Dec.
@SurgicalRN Oh yay! Glad to see someone else in this specialty. I'll probably submit mine this weekend. Still tweaking essay. I would be curious to know if you also cited sources in statement essay or used a reference page. I know it says use evidenced based but other places I'm reading says to not cite on a personal statement. Last thing I got to figure out before sending it in.
Me too! I feel like surgical NPs are kind of rare to come upon! I included two references which I used in-text citations in my paper for and used a reference page as well. I think they just want to see that we can cite things properly. I chose articles that supported my claims on the benefits of an NP for surgical patients. Nothing too crazy! I just wanted to completely follow the prompt.
@SurgicalRN Oh I agree, its always PAs we see but NPs are just as qualified. So excited/nervous to start ?
Yeah I think you're right. I wanted to make sure to follow prompt strictly too since they won't really even look at it if you don't. Forgot about using EBP citations though so I'll need to adjust it a bit.
I just submitted. It feels good to finally be done! Fingers crossed!! Good luck to y'all as well! :)
