I applied to nursing school and got in, however, I did not receive my blue card due to something being on my background. It is a misdemeanor Family Violence against my ex husband that occurred 10 years ago. I also have been arrested before several times for traffic tickets and failure to appear for those tickets, not really sure if that affects me as well. I talked to them and they stated they have to review my case within 6 weeks, after that I might have to submit a DO and $150. My question is if anybody has had a similar experience and maybe even similar background and what the outcome was? I'm really worried because classes start in May and I know a DO can take super long which I don't want to start if at the end I will be denied anyways. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Also if anybody knows how strict TXBON is in regards to background, like my odds of being accepted. Thank you!

Hey there, how did this end up
going for you? I’m in a similar boat with TXBON but with a juvenile charge (expunged, not charged?) that I think may be holding me up, or my traffic violations. I’m worried sick.

Hi! Any update? I’m in a similar boat with a misdemeanor from 20 years ago!
thank you!
I actually received a letter stating that they are aware of my past criminal past and that although I did not receive an actual blue card I will be able to sit for the NCLEX exam. I was able to submit this to my school with no issues! Lettsr took about 3 to 4 weeks not the actual full 6 weeks. I hope this helps!
I should be reviewing my letter today. I’m honestly terrified of the results, even though my one criminal offense was when I was under 17. I was reading other posts that people had said even though the TX BON allowed them to sit for the NCLEX, finding a job on the other hand was hard. I don’t want to put myself 20k+ in debt if I can’t find a job ?

So, there is good news, and bad news. I will have a record after my court date, so I have been doing research on careers to pursue for future employment. What I have discovered is your best shot right now is to apply for a job in California for nursing. The reason I say this is because a recently passed bill just changed a good number of licensing boards standards for qualification. Fortunately, for students in nursing schools just like yourselves this means as long as it's expunged your pretty much in clear with getting your license if you continue your career in California. However, jobs might still be able to see your record, but they now have to consider rehabilitation for expunged charges. Therefore, its gonna be hard too not hire you based on your record if its expunged. I hope this gives you guys some hope, so if its really a dream you might have to work in California.
