The state of TX has a new law that provides for anybody to get a $10,000 bounty by suing any person discussing or assisting a woman in any way to have an abortion after six weeks, I.e., before many women even know they are pregnant. The burden is on the person sued to deny it, and if they win they cannot recover their legal costs. This means a driver, a friend to whom a woman confided, someone who bought her a bus ticket, a vindictive ex, clergy, a clinic receptionist, a neighbor you don’t like, a competitor, a restaurant where you didn’t like the service, a ref whose call you didn’t like … all open to being sued by anyone, and the burden on them to refute. Your rapist could impregnate you and then sue you. There are no exceptions for incest, pregnant children, or rape. There are obvious constitutional difficulties with this, information on which can be found in many sources. The SCOTUS declined to block it for the nonce, but have NOT invalidated Roe v Wade and are awaiting further suits.
A private group has put up a website where anonymous people can report any “suspicious” cases, which they will then refer to authorities…and I’ll bet they’ll expect to get the ten grand for every one. It is presently being flooded by fake reports, many hilarious. It’s taken off on Tik-Tok and Twitter at pic.Twitter.com/xgpvESdc5b If you’d like to join the fun, you can. I find it fascinating how people are always seeking to stand out because I'm the exact opposite. Unfortunately because of my size and the way I look, it becomes difficult sometimes, so I try to do as little as possible to attract attention.
People just don't seem to realize that our society is practically a representation of our own bodies. People are cells which when working with other, makes a healthy body or society. Aberrant people or cells are like cancer, unless they are the factions of evolution like a Martin Luther or Gandhi or someone immune to HIV or Covid?
Either way, they are extremely few and far between and they will always face envy and hate and will be ridiculed for being that way. Yet, everyone is always striving to stand out!
Texas is such an aberration. Since almost every industrialized country has this figured out except America, who of course thinks that we are exceptional because we apparently eat upside down or defecate sideways or something like that, you absolutely know that these republicans are doing this because evangelicals are lobbying for it and they are doing this for control of women's rights! But being old, insipid white men, they are always unable to see the big picture.
They live in their tiny, myopic world, surrounded by equally small minded people and just do not realize the powder keg they have just ignited! Nothing Joe Biden or the Dems could have done I think, to galvanize liberals more effectively than what Texas had just accomplished!
But maybe for them in their alternative reality, it's like the Insurrection, nothing is happening here, except for the enquiries that is just beginning and the evidence that will be unearthed!
That's the problem with the ignorant and uneducated, it's not like logic or science which most liberals believe in and is predictable so their patterns are predictable, republicans are splintered with their beliefs and they hardly ever agree with each other unless it's illegal, suppressive and controlling. You almost always know their playbook!
The problem with liberals is that we are too busy living our lives and we ignore them too often to our detriment!

Tweety, I had to ponder a bit before deciding to respond to this. The poster to whom I was responding was dictating that “you women” must take a very specific action that he believed was correct. I have never seen such behavior from you in these boards, so I don’t get why you took my remarks personally.
Regarding silence, I have no idea what goes on in your life outside of these boards. Only you know if you have cause to be ashamed of your response to male supremacists or the forced pregnancy crowd. That’s between you and your conscience and no business of mine.
As for being on our own, don’t let it come as a shock to you, but we always have been when it comes to female autonomy and reproductive rights. Nothing new there.
Back to the topic of the thread. I believe that the pushback against this legislation is already underway and will be multi-pronged. Legal challenges are already being prepared in spite of the cowardly non-response of the Supreme Court to the initial request to block it.
Economic sanctions will also be tried - although I haven’t noticed that boycotts have changed anyone’s behavior significantly. Still, worth a try.
If nothing else, progressive candidates have been handed a huge gift if they have the wits to exploit it.
There will also be more guerilla actions like the flooding of the abortion snitch line with nonsense the same way we did to that ridiculous voter fraud tip site.
Prior to Roe v. Wade, there were multiple underground networks spreading information and resources to women seeking abortions. While they were no substitute for safe and legal procedures by qualified practitioners, they were better than nothing for many women. We have been having abortions and practicing birth control for millennia, regardless of what male-controlled governments had to say about it. I have no doubt that those networks are being resurrected even as I write this.

I probably should explain myself, but with such a passive aggressive response, I'll pass and regret saying anything at all.

I took the comments about the Bernie bros being silent a little personally.
I think my silence stems from being someone who voted for Sanders over Biden but also is against abortion. My stance is purely biological. I believe a fetus is a life separate dependent on it's mother just like it would be after birth. Now I understand a Petri dish can have a heartbeat and don't support Texas at all. I'm silent because over and over I'm told to "if you don't have a uterus shut the "f" up about mine and that's been my stance pretty much over the years. It's a cry I hear louder over the last few weeks, as well as holding men that impregnate women accountable.
I also come from a long line of females that are anti-abortion and I know without a doubt they support Texas. It was a single issue for my aunt and my female cousins are all against abortion, as are many Catholic women I know but it's the men that are getting the brunt of the pushback. But I do know it's the men in charge and making the legislation so I get that.
I hope ultimately the courts will prevail against Texas as it's a vile position. Like I marched in the women's march after Trump was elected I'm sure to to join in the next one, which I think is October.
I'm all over the place and I apologize if this makes no sense. Another reason I stay silent I suppose is because I tend to agree with parts of both sides of the fence. But ultimately even though I think abortion is taking a life, it's not my place to take away a woman's choice.

Tripwire, heron. Tripwire!
There's your solution. Quick and very effective!

And there is the crux of the matter. The acceptability of abortion as a response to an unwanted pregnancy is almost completely a matter of belief, not verifiable fact. The only fact we have is a sorta guess at the age of viability of the fetus. You, like Joe Biden, do not attempt to use your beliefs as an excuse to dictate the beliefs, decisions and, ultimately the lives of women coping with unwanted pregnancies. It’s a position I respect and can support.
What I do not support or respect is legislation that, by definition, imposes one set of beliefs - and their consequences - on those who do not share those beliefs.

As a homosexual, and being told I did not deserve equality because of the Bible, and that I am an abomination to the Lord, and taking the stance that the Bible is not the Constitution of the US for a reason, I can not support the Bible dictating a stance on government control over a woman's right to make their own choice.
Let me ask you this. How many children died of Covid in the last 1.5 years? Compare that number to the amount of babies murdered at places liked Planned Parenthood. If you don't like the state of Texas protecting the rights of unborn children then simply don't live in Texas. Morally corrupt states like California that are passing laws to encourage theft, murder, and abortion might be more appropriate for people who disagree with protecting a babies life.

As I said in a previous post, it's likely that I misread your post. And, I appreciate your previous clarification.
No, I've done none of these. And again, thank you.
My apologies for this, it was meant to reflect my surprise, based on my misinterpretation, of your post.
It was not my intent to suggest that you had started a battle. Rather, this phrase is used by some in the Navy and Marine to signal their intent to disengage. I occasionally post this when I have decided, for whatever reason, that I am leaving the discussion. I should not have included this in the post in which I quoted you. Again, my apologies.
