Many of you probably know or do this, but in case someone doesn't (because I didn't think of it)... Be sure if you are leaving a home behind, you turn off your water supply. I just finished my first travel assignment, and while I was gone my toilet malfunctioned and flooded nearly my whole house. My dad was going by our house once a week to check on things, and one day he went over to find this disaster. We had to make a home owner's claim, and it is around $30,000 worth of damages. This happened in late July and the house won't be fixed until probably November. It's good that we are traveling now, it's better than living in a hotel studio for months. But it is a hassle dealing with all of this from a 1,000 miles away.
So, just wanted to share... Turn off your water when you leave! Even for a weekend I am convinced!

Sorry to hear about this. Hope your home is on the mend.
Not easy to have a home repair problem and be on the road at
the time. Lucky that your Dad was checking the house, that would
have been a shock to come home to.
Hope you are enjoying your travel experience otherwise...
