Hello everyone I'm a guy currently college student at my local CC. I messed up my first year my cumulative GPA went under 2.0. However, the classes I failed were not UC, CSU transferable. Besides for one which I retook and got a B in. Now, my GPA is 3.1 for UC,CSU credits. My cumalitive is around 2.9ish. I have taken 2 Prerequisite courses for nursing and have gotten A's. Next year (2016) I plan to finish everything up and hope to get at least a 3.4 GPA. Is there any hope for me to get into any CSU or UC? People tell me that being a guy makes it easier but I don't believe in discrimination. So anyone give me advice or anything. Any current nursing students anything! I have been really stressed out about this.. Thank you for the help.

Gender means nothing. You are nothing but a number in an application pool on hundreds. Merritt and points are where it matters in a CSU/UC app. Keep up the As and make a spreadsheet of what classes and what is reviewed on an application. Take side classes to boost your GPA if you have to.

I am not sure about UC's but not all CSUs take into account your cumulative GPA. Like for example, Sacramento State looks at your prerequisite GPA only along with TEAs score and optional points. CSU long beach also do not take cumulative GPA into account. They only look at your highest GPA for prerequisites also plus your TEAs math and individual score. These schools rank the highest nclex passing rates for the last few years. There are also a few others who do also only look at your prerequisites.
So yes there is still hope for you!! You just gotta set some time out to research these schools and don't mess up your grades from now on. Get a 4.0 GPA in your prerequisites and a very high TEAs score and you'll at least get into one CSU or more for sure. Also learning a needed language and getting work experience helps with a few schools too!
