Hi I’m a nursing student who desperately wants to travel. I’ve always envisioned myself with a dog while doing so. But am not sure how people travel with big dogs. I want a bigger dog for protection and hiking. I’m single and probably will in the further so I feel like this would be a great idea.
How have you done this? Doggy hotels? What should I look into? From what I’m understanding bringing a pet in general can be very limiting. Should I travel while on free time instead of becoming a travel nurse?

Finishing school and then a minimum of two years as a staff nurse in your chosen specialty first before even considering whether travel will suit your abilities or circumstances at that time. You may change your mind about a dog, or no longer be single with a significant other who is allergic or otherwise opposed. And yes, there are places I don't go as a traveler, preferring to travel on free time. Fun to visit, but pay or work conditions are not so good.
Yes, dogs make finding housing difficult. Same experience as finding permanent housing, but the costs will be higher as the landlord is not going to be able to amortize damage costs over just 3 months versus years. Usually there will be a substantial non-refundable pet charge.
Some travelers with pets (or families) go the RV route as far easier (not necessarily less expensive). RV parks are pretty much 100% pet friendly.
