Travel "contracts"

I do not but I am working within my own country. They do frequently on traveler coming to the USA from other nations, or US nurses going overseas. It is an expensive and time consuming process to clear someone for a contract that crosses into other countries (the paperwork is a nightmare) so they are trying to insure that they recoup something for that.

I do sign contracts for the 13-26 week assignments each time. But I am not required to stay with the company aftyer that time expires.

Do you have to sign a contract with travel recruiters - ie new to this and the company wants me to sign on w/ them for a year? Is this normal? I wanted to do a 13 wk assignment and then see...

I am Canadian, and traveled for 8 years. You DO NOT have to sign for a year. If you're interested in a contract, sign for the length of the contract, and go from there. If you want to change companies, change your TN (if that's what you're using), or continue working for the same company.

I definitely would not sign a one year contract, especially if this is your first travel assignment. Soem nurses will sign a one year contract as a traveler if they really like the facility............but as a first timer, no way.
