I am going to start travel nursing soon. Which is a good company? RN network? Faststaff? HRN? Cross Country? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I stayed with the same company 5 years -- there's a flip side to every story/assignment. I had two great recruiters in that company. I'd still be with that company if my initial recruiter(s) hadn't moved away, gotten married and pregnant. When I was "assigned" to the third recruiter ... long story short ... a great relationship with the company went sour ... she was NOT a good interface/spokesperson.
The company didn't/couldn't/wouldn't reassign me to another Recruiter, so a very long and happy relationship with the company ended.
My thoughts -- Move on until you find the Recruiter who cares about your interests as well as theirs -- two way street.
Bottom line: Companies are all about the same -- it's the Recruiter that is or isn't working for you making ALL the difference.

a recruiter over at parallon told me in florida base pay is 27.00 an hour and 600.00 a week tax free take home pay.........

I am new to traveling and very interested in the behind the scenes work. Does anyone know how the recruiters benefit from contracts they have signed? Are they paid a certain amount for each shift the nurse works?
wow that rate is different from what we have. but i guess it really varies with the state

There are a jillion different ways to compensate recruiters. But all the plans usually boil down to about a dollar an hour per traveler hour worked. So $36 per week per traveler. 10 travelers, $360 a week. It is a very rare recruiter that makes as much as a travel nurse. While different agencies have differing amounts of support staff for recruiters (much like different hospitals have differing support staff for nurses), the workload to make really good pay and keep up with, say, 30 travelers actually on assignment and another 20 or so you are trying to find assignments for and get signed up makes for a lot of worked hours. I believe most recruiters make well under 30K a year.
So yes, recruiters are effectively a sales force working on commission, which can pull them two directions. One is to get you on an assignment, any assignment, as they don't make money unless you are working. The other is to do the right thing by their travelers (get them on the right assignment) to keep them long term which ultimately makes them more money. All the recruiters that make decent money do the latter, and have very loyal travelers who will follow such a star recruiter even if the recruiter changes agencies.
