On one assignment, I was put up in a studio (noisy and small) about 3/4 mile from the facility but right on the bus line. It was in midtown.

On the other (different company), I had a rather nice studio on a brownstone street (quiet, between a convent and a home for the "memory impaired", doorman building) 10 blocks from my assignment. It was on the upper east side.

Do not take your car and count on walking if you are in Manhattan (both my assignments were).
