New TV Show- Nurse Nation on MTV

Have y'all heard about the new TV show MTV is working on titled 'Nurse Nation'!? I don't have the quote from Entertainment Weekly, but it reads something like "a docuseries thay follows 9 young hard-partying travel nurses as they explore a new city for 13 weeks."

The premiere date has yet to be announced, but MTV has greenlit the show and others to replace the hole that Jersey Shore is leaving in their network. What are your thoughts? Excited to watch it or annoyed at how they may portray travel RNs?

This is not a Nurse! Probably someone from there publicity department to calm the nurse outrage at there attempt to demoralize nurses for money.

I'm sure a respectable network like MTV will give an unbiased portrayal of the people they selected, who are almost certainly mild mannered average representations of the profession. I'm sure that we will all have a warm fuzzy feeling after watching the show and we should be grateful that they found some time between all the music videos to air this soon-to-be-classic. ;)

Amen to PAtoLAnurse, completely agree

3 of the nurses were on my floor at my hospital. Trust me when I say that they were bored stiff and lazy. Any and all drama was created or played up. What would you expect from a "reality" TV show. They were, however, real RN's on a travel contract. They were very smart, they did know what they were doing, AND they were totally fake, unfriendly, and holier-than-thou. We had to shift around assignments to accommodate the producer's trauma-shopping of pts. to make sure the travel RN's got the exciting cases. Of course, this meant no unconscious or ALOC pts. who couldn't consent to be on camera. Yeah. So. What're ya gonna do? Oh, and did I mention that several times they ALL called in sick at the same times on the same days?

I feel for you. I can't imagine how big a pain that was. Also, I think the title for the show is completely idiotic.

This makes me so irritated. Why? Just why? I didn't get into nursing for the money & I sure as hell no party after my shift. You know MTV will make a joke out of our profession & it makes me sick to my stomach to think about. Ugh. I can't even go on any more.

I travel with groups of friends and yes, we mostly are in the same units and yes, we do go out and party after work sometimes. Just because you are a professional doesn't mean you can't have a life. The nurses going on TV and showing how they live their lives is no worse than nurses venting on this public forum about how they hate their jobs, patients, and patient family members...

Key work SOMETIMES. I'm sure they are going out whenever they have the chance & look at all that drama. It's not exactly highlighting nurses at their best.

Google scrubbing in on facebook. There's a page that explains everything, where, who, and some of the reasons why nurses are upset. Canadian nurses and Canadian nursing organizations have actually written letters to MTV about their dismay regarding this show. Curious what ANA and other nursing organizations think?

And yet this show is STILL on the air. It needs to be yanked!

The agency who provided travel nurses to Orange County. CA issued a Press Release in response to backlash from nurses . . .an excerpt is below. Spew Alert: they want to help alleviate the nursing shortage.

"Through the Scrubbing In participation Aya Health intends to create a greater awareness about the heroic work nurses do every day. According to the Bureau of Labor Statics (sic) the United States is experiencing a nursing shortage that is only expected to worsen. . "

To summarize the next point, they hope to inspire young people to choose a nursing career with their show.

Anyway, I came across this contact info for Aya Health executives should anyone be interested.

I agree. Funny how all the other posts about this show have disappeared?

Found out on another thread that the posts have moved to the break room side of AN.
