Leaving travel nursing

I'm so ready to leave travel nursing. The pay lately has been so low (from 6 different recruiters) and no one has the places I actually want to visit. Its not all about the money but this is sad. I can be happier as staff with some OT. Maybe I'm just venting but its bad right now and there are so many new travelers. Also I'm regretting my decision to get an RV as that has limited my options for places when I can't find a place to park it. Just putting this out there for those who are considering travel "It isn't all great"

Park your RV at home if an assignment is not RV friendly. Simple!

Yep it has been worse then I could imagine. I didn't have a good feeling about it but, wanted out of Texas. Low pay for ICU, Cancelled contracts, Hospitals cancelling needs, companies unable to get you housing, company housing not turned over and left disgusting. I started looking for staff jobs in the Fall and got serious in late December.

I haven't noticed a change. What happened? I am still circulating around the Bay Area and in my RV......

Your Peri Op so things are still good for you. Contracts for ICU at places in the bay area have dropped into 1700-2000 gross instead of 2300-2600 just from last summer.

Exactly, i'm getting quotes for 1700-1900/week gross and that's from multiple recruiters. Its just something i'm thinking about but we shall see. As I said I love my RV but there are times when i'm having to turn down higher paying contracts (like san fran) because I can't find an RV spot. If I had it to do over i'm not sure I would have gone the RV route but that's not the reason for the low paying jobs. I'm gonna hold out till winter jobs post and reassess then.

RV's are for high demand specialties like Cath lab, L&D, CVOR. They can get high paying contracts in places outside of California.

Have you thought about living in a van as a downsize from an RV? I thought about getting something like this. Get it in white without all the stuff on the outside and an AC unit in the inside and a gym membership and you're golden. Cheaper and more public friendly as it looks like a plummer van. I thought about doing it but not froma conversion place. It's all about that stealthiness!!!!!!

I did this for my last assignment. No AC though, just two fans (one in the ceiling, another small one by my face). Had no trouble finding places to park, and saved a bunch of money.

I have been tossing this idea around just to be closer to work. You can park all over SF at night for free. I met some construction guys that do it in a small class c rv. I stay in santa rosa and commute but my rv parking is free there. The van would eliminate the drive. I go home every week, they schedule me a week on and a week off with 12s...

Ok hearing this side of it is new. I have heard all really good stuff and nothing remotely close to this. Thats why I am researching this whole idea.

yep, its not for everyone and its hard to find a place to park sometimes especially in the summer. Here in Los Angeles im paying 1525 a month and thats more than my weekly stipend almost double so it doesnt always save you money. In fact I could save more with a roommate situation but thats isn't gonna work with my situation with my wife and I and our 2 dogs
