Housing & Transportation in CALI

I'm planning to go to California after April. I don't plan to drive due to its like 23 hours away. My biggest concern is finding a decent place to stay and getting transportation to and from the hospital... Any suggestions??? Renting a car for 13 weeks is def out of the question. Any good agencies that offer great travel reimbursement and a housing stipend (im aware that housing in Cali is expensive than other places)?

You can Google the public transportation. Can't tell you what it is like because you didn't tell us the city, hospital, and housing. California is a huge state! If the city has decent transportation, then pick housing based on public transportation accessibility. Personally, I would find a place within 5-6 miles and bicycle - I never take public transportation on assignment. There are several recent posts on finding housing.

Drive your car! Make a three day to a couple week trip out of it and catch a few interesting cities and national parks along the way. Take advantage of this great opportunity! You can deduct 56 cents a mile for the trip (less whatever the agency is giving you for travel), plus per diem for each travel day. No matter where you are in California, you will want a car because there will be something interesting only a couple hours away. You can also bring more stuff, clothes, bedding, cookware, etc.

Other than S.F. proper, unless you have $1000/month for parking. Then again, you can park out of town for much less, and still have a car available. I agree with the above though, if you go to CA and don't explore, you'll missing out...
