Yes unfortunately they are that low. My recrutier jokingly called it the sunshine tax. The price one pays to be someplace nice and generally warm all year- unless you are in the northern part of the state then it gets chilly at times. Dosent seem to keep the travelers away too much, for example where I current am we have 6 or 8 in my department. I might add do a search on wages/salary on this board and you can read all about FL and other states.

Also of note though there is no state income tax. This isnt close to making up any difference.

They make up for it with a little higher sales tax and property taxes. The rate of the property tax isnt all that high just the fact the house values goes up so fast- my step daughter just bought a home in the Orlando area and the homes in their neighborhood typically go up about $20,000 a year.

Yes - they really are that low! I go back to FL every year for at least one contract d/t family obligations and generally make about $5 - $7 less an hr than I do in similar sized facilities in other states. I have been offered contracts for even less (one was $9 an hour less than my current contract)! (this was my reaction to that!)

I'm making 35-38/hr with no benefits doing local agency (critical care) wish I knew where people were making 9 dollars more than that a hour!

I travel in Florida frequently as the assignments there tend to be my "vacation". Pay is definitely low. Pay tends to vary between 22-30/hr for the hospitals to prime locations. You can see as high as 35/hr in some of the less desirable locations or innercity areas. Finding above 35/hr is a rarity.

I spoke with World Health about 2 weeks ago and they offer 35/hr with housing and rental car, but it is at "rapid Response" hospitals. They submit you 2 weeks prior to your start date, and they get you a FL license in 3 days!!! That is unheard of. Flordia usually take 3 -4 months to get a license. I asked the lady which cities do they usually see, and she told me Sanford/Orlando ( they have a per diem office there too) Tampa, Boca Raton, and some on the panhandle.
