Are guaranteed hours really guaranteed?

  1. The hospital I worked for suddenly cut all the travel contracts without notice a few months ago. When those of us on contract showed up to work one night we were all just sent home. Although my contract was for guaranteed hours I never saw another dime. Thankfully I was able to stay in my housing free of charge until my next assignment but I went about three weeks without pay.

    How common is this now?
Is it something to be prepared for these days when travel nursing?
Please let me know if you have had a similar experience and how you handled it.

Would you leave your travel company over an incident like this? I think I will; If I can't count on them to honor their own contract with me I really shouldn't be partnered with them. I expected my company to do more but all I got was lip service.

    Thank you for your thoughts,

Contracts depend on their verbiage, the willingness of the parties to abide by the terms, and then ultimately the willingness and financial status of an aggrieved party to have a big legal hoedown.
