Hi there! I'm wanting to start travel nursing later this year, but I have some (okay, a lot) of questions about it and wanted some advice from experienced travelers. My biggest question is what do i do if i have a family emergency and need to leave immediately? Thanks for any advice!

You have to eat the missed hour penalties which in many contracts are huge, especially if you cannot finish your contract from early on in the contract. Depending on the situation, and whether the agency is providing housing, and just on their temperament and yours, they could let a good bit go. Many hospitals will terminate you immediately even if you only need a couple missed scheduled shifts. In addition, you only will get paid for hours you work. No sick time, no PTO, no holidays. You can schedule certain days off before you accept a contract though.
If you have a high risk of a family emergency, you really shouldn't be leaving the area or your much more forgiving staff job.
