Hi everybody, my name is Troy.
Over the past year or so I've fallen very hard for a wonderful woman who when I met her was working as an RN at 2 different jobs, and recently she has started her direction towards travel nursing, my questions are mostly about this.
Out of everywhere we look, it seems to be a common response that they have "worked with a travel nurse" in the past or rented to one, yet they seem frustrated when you tell them about how you don't have money Before the job starts, this is causing a lot of hiccups for us as she is just starting out and figuring everything out. We of course realize that in between assignments you will save up money etc to prepare for the next one... So this first run has been an effective learning experience.
Right now we're having a lot of trouble because of our choices, which are Florida, Having a dog that's not a chihuahua, and not being able to put (some are asking at least) 2-3 grand down up front on a rental property. We look at all the sites we've heard of everyday looking for more, calling, emailing, etc. Airbnb, vrbo, facebook, craigslist, with so far a lot of people being frustrated about the above reasons, Huge upfront payment/having a dog.
What I've been wondering though and maybe I'm just not finding it, is there some sort of travel nurse community that everyone shares? What I was thinking of for example is lets say there's a large nursing community such as this forum, and everyone put a very vague label of where they have as their living area, such as San antonio, or cleveland, or so on. I think it would be a very amazing and helpful structured setup for all the travel nurses going everywhere, kind of like that couch crashing app that got insanely popular. I'm not sure how to really explain the idea other than basically when you sign up, you say the area you stay, and if you would like to be notified if someone is looking for a place to stay in your area, this of course would *only* be an option to people you've pre-sorted out through settings too, like they have to at least be an RN, and able to prove it, etc. If I was a travel nurse, I would have no issue renting my "home address" to another travel nurse, it seems like a lot of this community is very friendly and easy to understand one another's struggles and daily issues and I don't know, it just surprises me how difficult it is to find someone to take your money when they aren't even staying at the place.
Sorry this post is a bit scattered, I've been thinking about doing this post for a week or so and I tend to go off in different directions.
What we're trying to find is a place in Beginning of january to mid april, the living stipend is 1900, and there is a loveable, lazy, sleeps-all-day doberman. If anyone has any insight to where we can keep looking or other options we can pursue as this is all still new, please don't hesitate to say something we might not have heard or thought of yet.

One possible solution to your issues is traveling by RV. I don't know if your dog or you would be comfortable in a small living area, but that fixes the rental issue. RV parks are almost uniformly pet friendly. That said, a doberman will scare many of the park occupants, even though a large percentage will be pet owners. That is the social cost of a doberman anywhere urban.
Travel by RV is done for the lifestyle though and it is not a cheaper way to live generally. Large upfront costs (buy used), and maintenance costs will be high, as will be gas/diesel/wear and tear costs to travel to new assignments.

My wife and I travel by RV, pull the trailer wherever we go. It is a larger up front cost but the everyday cost is cheaper since rent in the rv parks is monthly and cheaper, way cheaper, than finding housing, which we have also done. And with a dog it's even easier. But it costs money. Traveling pays better, but there are hassles. If you don't have the money for that you have to have the money for the housing. I don't see that you have much choice in the matter, unless you get the housing from the company.
thanks for the input, the location was fort myers, i have no idea how i left that out, what ended up happening was she told the company she couldn't find a place, so they tried looking and couldn't find her anywhere either, so they upped her living stipend, she found a place right away after that (snowbird prices were limiting her severely). This is all good info, she was wanting to do the RV/Trailer thing, but I assumed/worried of all the things you guys listed here, good to know it was accurate.
