So I'm going to California most likely for my next travel assignment as my recruiter is pushing for it. But after looking at the PCU/ICU rates are looking like $1900-$2200 a week. And the housing is really expensive. It almost feels like it might not be worth it with the Cost of living. Any input or thoughts on housing? I'm also licensed in Pennsylvania, Florida, Colorado,California, Oregon, Washington state, Alaska. Should I consider another travel assignment or something?

Of course! Failure to shop around (I'm talking multiple agencies) means either you won't get a fair market rate, or will never know for sure. High paying assignments can be had anywhere on the west coast including AK. Much rarer in PA, FL, and CO.
Ok thank you for the heads up. I will keep a eye out to the west coast and Alaska í ½í¸Š

alot of the jobs I have been seeing for Cali have been low for the area lately, thats why I am shopping still. I think the issue is the increase in travelers who take whatever job they are handed so its bringing the rates down.
Current take home is just under 3k a week, i have had similar offers recently but have extended where im at.... I work OR though. It obviously varies by specialties. SF bay area is where its at.
Oh yeah the OR definitely pays more, I only do ICU/Tele/PCU so I have also been shopping around

Don't automatically classify all of California as having expensive housing! Definitely check pay with multiple agencies to find the best rate, but there are areas with cheaper cost of living and great pay. A city like Modesto, for example, has 1-bedrooms listed on Craigslist for $1000 and under as short-term rentals. Whether you want to spend 13 weeks in Modesto depends on your travel goals and what you seek from an assignment, but it's good to know your options.
