I'm interested in trauma and critical care. I'll be graduating (ADN-RN) in a few months and I was wondering what can I do to prepare myself in getting there. Thank you!!!

I would get yourself in a BSN program starting right away and try to get into a surgical floor. Perhaps look into truama specific courses too. However, be open to other specialties. I wanted Peds the whole time I was in my ADN and BSN programs. I wasn't able to get in, but now I'm on adult critical care and I love it!

I appreciate your input Jean! And you're right, aside from this interest I also love cardiac unit so I will definitely look into getting in the med. surg. floor and BSN program . Thank you so much!!!

You don't NEED to have a BSN to work in trauma/critical care.

Thanks John! I thought it's one of those requirement needed for me to get into CC/Trauma Unit. I wonder if it's the hospital discretion and for them to be willing to train an ADN-RN to be qualified.

It'll be up to the unit managers, but your chances are better with it. I work with ADNs, but we've only had one new hire ADN and she is a NA now and will be gett her BSN in the fall.

A hospital may require a BSN to work in critical care, but a BSN nurse will require just as much on-the-job training as an ADN or diploma nurse.
