TRANSFERRING LICENSE TO A DIFFERENT STATE

Published

I AM AN LVN IN CALIFORNIA AND LOOKING TO PRACTICE IN TEXAS. I CANNOT ENDORSE MY LICENSE TO TEXAS SINCE I FINISHED MY SCHOOLING AS EQUIVALENCY AND I AM NOT A GRADUATE. DOES ANYONE KNOW THE PROCESS TO GET A LICENSE IN TEXAS AS A NON GRADUATE FROM CALIFORNIA?

This is one of the downsides of CA's additional routes to licensure. In order to get a license in a state that requires completion of a program, you'll need to complete a program.

You can't transfer a license to any state, you can however apply and pay for a license in a different state if you meet that states licensing requirements. Once you have an established work history this will become easier as most states have a path to licensure based on practice hours as a nurse. That is the only way I can think of to possibly license in a state that doesn't accept your education background and even then I'm not certain that's going to work. It all depends on the state requirements where you are looking to apply.

You will not be able to endorse your CA license to TX (or any other state that I am aware of). That is the chance you take when doing the CA non-graduate route. I'm sorry this came back to bite you.

If you wish to practice outside CA you will need to attend and graduate from a school of nursing.

Were you able to transfer your license?
