Transferring from a Community College to University/Private, ADN or BSN?

Published

Hello I have some Questions that have really been bugging me. So I went to a Community College (CC) to do my prerequisites to enter in a nursing program. After, I did not apply to the community college nursing program but I did apply to a Private University nursing program and i was accepted. My question is that, will i still be graduating from the nursing program at the Private University as a ADN even though it is "BSN Program" and the badge of the lab coats say "BSN Student"? I know the CC is a lot cheaper but i just want know if there is a advantage to going to the Private University nursing program or should I stay at the CC nursing program if the outcome is going to be the same? I know that at the CC i will end up with a ADN with RN license but will there be any difference to my degree if i transfer to the Private University? Will i still end up with a ADN with my RN license at the Private? This will help me get my mind together because if it is the same outcome at the end of the nursing program since i finished my prereques at a CC and got my A.A degree there than i will just go to the CC because it is way cheaper. Thank You.

I don't know in your specific situation. I may be wrong.

A nursing degree from a community college gets you an Associate Degree you will be a RN. (When you pass NCLEX.)

A BSN from a private University should get you a BSN degree. You will be a RN. (When you pass NCLEX.)

Many private universities are ripp offs. As you've stated they're very expensive. They may not be accredited. You may, will, end up owing tens of thousands of dollars.

So no I don't think you should go to a private university. But I know nothing of your situation nor the private university you have been accepted to.

If you apply for a BSN program and finish that program successfully, then you would be a RN, BSN after passing the NCLEX. Community college ADN programs are cheaper compared to getting a BSN at a university or private college. If the private university that you're talking about is an ADN degree and not a BSN degree, then go to the community college because you will get the same degree for cheaper. I would talk to a counselor at the private university and see what kind of nursing program it is (ADN or BSN) and go from there. Good luck.
