Transferring a CNA License

Published

Any tips on transferring a CNA license to another state? I'm looking into moving to CA from CO for nursing school and have been researching all that is involved in this process but I'm not getting any clear answers. Anything helps!

In most states, CNA is not a license, it's a certification; you may need to recertify in your target state, as there could be different requirements. You should be able to get a perfectly clear answer from the BoN of the state to which you wish to move. Call and get a live person.

Many years ago I transferred my CNA license from the Northeast to California, but that was about 2 decades ago. I'm not positive that they still do it, however I did find this document, but I'm unsure as to how old it is. I hope it helps get you on the right track.

If you scroll down about halfway on the 1st page, you'll see the option of Reciprocity from another state, as well as Equivalent Training. One of those should be what you'd need.
