Transferred can't register for classes until semester starts!

Published

Out of curiosity has anyone else gone through this? I was enrolled in a ADN program at my local CC. After their program started to degrade I got nervous and transferred to a 4 yr BSN program. Because I transferred in the middle of summer I missed the orientations.

Now I have to wait until Sept 1&2 for the transfer orientation. This is when I get my schedule, materials list and requirements. Classes start Sept 3.

Does this seem crazy to anyone else?

I don't know if I have my required vaccinations done, no clue if I'm day or evening (have kids at home and can't schedule a sitter). I don't even know if they're going to start me out in the RN core classes or if I have other gen ed to do first since I changed from ADN to BSN.

I'm totally stressed! Usually by now I have all my stuff ready, schedule blocked out, books ordered etc.

I did make an appointment with my advisor but it clearly states that we will receive a schedule of classes Sept 1 if we didn't attend the summer orientations.

I can imagine how that could be incredibly frustrating and worrisome; I recommend on getting in touch with your adviser as you mentioned and ask whether you will be in core nursing classes or in general education; also ask about a sample schedule to see what yours might look like

By the what you describe I do not believe you will be in any clinical nursing courses as they have not asked for health clearance information which is needed ahead of time (at least in my school).

Try to be as prepared as possible, documentation in hand, when you do attend the orientation. Burn up the phone, or go to the department office frequently to try to glean as much info as possible. When you go around the department on a foray to the office, just walk up to someone that looks like a nursing student and ask. You might find someone who can give you some useful info if you can't get cooperation elsewhere. That orientation schedule leaves a lot to be desired. It would only be alleviated if they were to send you a fat orientation packet in the mail. Certainly seems like they are trying to punish anyone who transfers in. Not a good omen. Good luck.

I had all my paperwork in for the CC. I'm wondering if since I went through the internal transfer process, maybe my documents went along?

I was supposed to start core classes at the CC. I guess I didn't realize that may not happen in the BSN program. :(

Here the CCs require 8 pre-reqs. One of the 4yrs I checked out requires 4, and another requires 14. Check and see if you can find out what the prerequisites are for your program. A lot of times they have them listed online. That might help you relieve some stress. It may also help to see if you can talk to an adviser from the nursing program, instead of someone in the general advising department.

I am in kind of a similar boat, even though I am not a transfer. I am beginning the nursing program this fall. All of the nursing advisers are on vacation until August 1, which means I can't register until then, and I won't know my schedule until I register. I had to quit my job in order to go to nursing school, and I need to get a job sometime, but I don't want to get one, and then tell them that I have to take 2 days off for orientation. This slightly OCD schedule based person is a little freaked out over all of this.

I've pulled the degree requirements and started going through to make a list. I do have an appointment with my nursing advisor in August.

Hopefully I'll have the info I need after my appointment.

It just seems crazy that they would have orientation the two days before classes start. That leaves absolutely no time to prepare! I don't want to be thy student who shows up with no books the first week. :(
