Transferability between nursing schools?

Published

I just got accepted to the University of Lethbridge nursing program but I would rather go to Langara college RN program but because of the long waitlist that wouldn't be plausible for this coming year. Does anyone know if it's possible to go to Lethbridge and then transfer my credits to Langara and finish my degree there?

Specializes in ICU, ER.

I don't know about those particular schools, but if you call Langara admissions I'm sure they'd be happy to tell you how it would work.

I do know that one of my friends was going to Ottawa U and transferred to my program (Laurentian U) between third and fourth year and LU made her take classes from 1st year! So she now has to do the whole 4-year degree over again if she doesn't transfer back to Ottawa. Yikes!

Alberta has problems accepting out of province courses and after hearing what they did to a co-workers who attended Langara, I wouldn't be surprized if BC starts really looking at Alberta credits.

So I wouldn't hold my breath. You'll probably get credit for the English, Psych, Sociology courses but the nursing ones are doubtful.

You've also got to remember that to transfer into year two of a programme there has to be space for you. In other words you need somebody to drop our fail out. Not impossible but people from Kwantlen, UBC, Douglas, BCIT may also want to transfer into Langara and would have a far easier time doing the transition.

Oh...thank you, I guess I'll just call or email them and figure it out. ...hmmm if that's the case how's the job hiring from out of province? would I have to register for both Alberta and BC?...cause I want to eventually come back to BC and work there

i tried to switch schools this year but i gave up on it because its such a pain in the ***. you have to pay OCAS to apply again, send all of your course outlines, and then they tell you most of your credits aren't transferrable and that there are no seats available.
