I have been working for 5 years now in dialysis after 15 yrs in a Hospital, mostly specializing in ortho/trauma.  I have laid witness to more death than I care to admit.  But today was a different one for me.  My patient decided she is tired and doesn't want to do dialysis anymore

I manage probably 60 patients now.  I feel like I know all their stories.  3 days a week gives you plenty of time to get to know people.  This week, we have suddenly lost 5 patients, unrelated to dialysis,  and now my sweet lady has decided she is done.  I told her the one good thing about her kidney disease was I got the chance to know her, where I otherwise might not.

We hugged and cried as we said goodbye.  She thanked me for giving her 3 great years.  I love nursing,  can't trade these moments for anything
