Took NCLEX yesterday.

Hello everyone!

I took my NCLEX yesterday.. Phew. That was a ***** of a test. I had about 30% peds/OB (the one area I did NOT want), probably the same amount of priority questions, a handful of SATA q's, and 0 math. I wish I had some math. Lol.

It shut off at 123 or 124. Probably because of the OB! Grr! Or maybe because I made educated guesses on almost every question. It was ALL critical thinking though.. So you can't really pick that up in a book.

Unlike most people.. I'm not completely freaking out. lol. I feel like I passed, because I looked up most of the answers when I got home and I did pretty well. But there is a shadow of doubt hanging over me..

I didn't study AT ALL for the test. Nor did I study throughout school. I have really good recall and when something makes sense -- it clicks and I keep it with me in the old noggin. In the end, I got a 3.1 GPA.. And without studying -- that's pretty damn good, I think.

Thankfully, I am im a Quick Results state, so I'll know "unofficially" tomorrow if I passed or the other unmentionable.

Cross your fingers for me!

I PASSED! Woot! I got a job as a GN straight out of school and was instructed to call work as soon as I found out... My DON asked if I wanted to celebrate passing by coming in to work early.. hehe.he..he. She was serious.

When I got there.. The ADON said over the intercom "Ladies & Gentlemen- Quick Announcement- Kara McDonald has passed her boards. She is the newest addition to our nursing team! Thank you & Congratulations, Kara." Everyone I passed in the hallways said Congratulations, got a few hi-fives and a few hugs.. When I got to my unit.. There was a banner above the nurse's station saying Congrats, Nurse Kara!" Then over the intercom, I was called to the DON's office. Uh-oh.. Here it comes.. I knocked on the door and my DON said very seriously "Kara, come in and sit down. Close the door behind you." So.. I close the door and there are balloons tied to a beanie baby holding a card which was signed by just about everyone in the nursing dept. Then I asked for a raise.... and she said "Haha. Don't push your luck, kid." Lol!

I went to HR to get a new badge and the machine was broken.. So the HR manager made a ghetto temp badge sticker on her computer that said my name, Magnificent Superstar Nurse!!! Lol. Then everyone got ice cream. Well, the ice cream wasn't really because of me. lol. It was for the patients, but they gave me a bowl anyway.. Mmmmm Chocolate! They really went all out. It was overwhelming!

Then I had a whole bunch of orders, a new admit, a through the roof BS (probably because of the ice cream...), and a fall = paperwork out the ying yang. Woohoo. Life goes on.

Thanks for all the luck, guys! The nursing community really is a band of brothers. So supportive!

took mine yesterday 28th '09...and i can say that im definitely hanging:bugeyes:...i have a 7mos gap from my formal nclex review to my actual test because i had a hard time processing my papers so in the end i only have a 3weeks..yes weeks to recall all of that...(im working, taking my masterals and all..)..so i started using Saunders & Lippincott practice tests to refresh my memory.Oh God help me...after days of reviewing i had my confidence back a little but i know it wasnt enough...then the exam day came....I stopped at 75.....and i was like that's it??? because i prepared myself to reach 200 or more, and getting only 75items only means that you either did really well or you sucked big time:o...when the computer stopped at 75 i just went blank (that i ended up agreeing to all of the evaluation survey at the end of the exam even though i dont even know what their asking about)..i want to answer more because I've been getting a lot of difficult questions and i would like to make up for it..no alternate tests as such..all were multiple choice, lots of prioritization..1or2 of meds..delegation. I only spent 1hour and whatever minutes taking the exam and it left me really really stunned i dont know what to expect???I had a hard time answering those questions and the options were all so tricky that you'll end up just choosing which is which.:uhoh3:
