Took NCLEX yesterday and FREAKING OUT!!

OK soo I know everyone freaks out after they take NCLEX.... Everyone says they feel like they failed!! Well i really feel like I failed. I graduated with a 4.0 from a BSN program in December and I just took the NCLEX yesterday.... i was so anxious during the test. Before the test began I prayed it would shut off at 75... then as I grew closer to question number 75 I was begging it not to shut off!! I felt like I needed time to redeem myself..

I started off with fairly "easy" questions.. Well they seemed easy but I didn't know the answers... I could tell the test was getting easier.. then harder... then easier...harder ect.... I then got a lot of priority questions at the end (around 15-20)... but no "experimental" type questions. I had maybe 6 check all that apply. But nothing too strange... Then at 75 it did shut off...

I went home and looked up the only questions I could remember.. Which was only like 10... i missed probably 8 of those... I don't know if I am only able to remember those questions because I struggled with them or what.. But now I am stressing out so bad...

I already have a job lined up and I cannot afford to fail.. What do y'all think about it shutting of at 75? Aren't priority questions "higher" level questions??

:uhoh21: STRESSING!!!

If only I had a buck every time someone who just took the NCLEX flipped out of his/her head waiting for results, I wouldn't need to be a staff nurse ;)

75 questions, first try at NCLEX, did great in school=HUGELY good chance of passing. Excellent, actually. First-time test-takers pass around 85% of the time, last I looked. And your odds, particularly, are probably better.

Breathe :)

You only remember the ones you probably didn't get right because they stuck out in your head. Not because you probably failed most of the rest of them! You DON'T remember the ones you sailed through. I was exactly the same. And I'm an RN ;)

Did I mention you need to BREATHE?

Go for a walk, pet a dog, watch mindless TV or better yet, rent a FABULOUS fave movie. Drink and eat your favorite things. Play silly stuff on the internet you didn't have time to do before, when studying. Go out for drinks with friends (but NOT NOT NOT to talk about NCLEX!!!)

Smile. You're going to be a nurse soon :)

I'm trying to breathe... Thank you for your support... I just need to hear someone say that maybe just maybe it will be OK.... It did snow here last night, which NEVER happens.. I live in SC and it snowed 3 inches last night... So early this morning I had snowball fights and built a snowman... Now the snow is melting and the fear and anxiety of reality is setting back in.. .HAHA!!

What scares me the most is another girl, in another county, that took the NCLEX yesturday already found out she passed through the licensee lookup website... If her results are up... Why aren't mine???

Still trying to breathe

:o

Ok, support group time :D

Different states have their web results up at different intervals. Some have them up within 24 hours, some take days or even weeks. Most of the time, with Pearson-Vue Quick Results, you can find out your personal results in 48 hours (after the test is complete). Is that an option in SC? Some states have had their results posted faster than Pearson, for others, paying $7.95 is a gift for finding out the answer.

I was NOT a good "waiter", lol....I know where you are. I alternated between massive headaches and being quite sure I failed, to thinking "well, the odds are with me, maybe I managed to pass". I spent way too much time worrying, in hindsight. You are too ;) Hang in there!!

As a "by the way", I'm in NY and we've had only two cases of a dusting each time. ONE inch was our biggest snow this season, and I can't even impress upon you how weird THAT is. We're usually buried under mountains of snow by now, but in recent years, it's getting less and less. I personally believe in global warming!

Yea my boyfriend's mom lives in Manhattan and she said she had a dusting the other night... well the girl that took it lives in the same state as me so that is why I got scared.... But yes we can call in 48 hours and get the quick results... But that isn't until tomorrow haha!

I think this is torture making us wait like this.. I don't see why they can't just tell us immediately if they know immediately. This whole process is probably aging me prematurely! HAHA... I really just hope I passed because after being in school for 4 and 1/2 years I am ready to get out there. I've been working as a patient care technician for a few months and I am just ready to be a real nurse.

I noticed your specialty was Med/Surg. I will also be starting out on a Med/Surg floor (if I pass that is :nuke:) Renal and Respiratory to be more specific. I really love the patients and I think it will be very challenging... So I guess I'll find out tomorrow... If i don't have an MI before then.. haha

If you weren't anxious you wouldn't be normal.

If you weren't anxious you wouldn't be normal.

Ditto that! I came across the rare bird on this site's NCLEX forum who swore he/she wasn't at all worried, knew they passed, and I just had to wonder about that person's biological makeup: sure wasn't remotely like mine!

Anyway, Gail, as far as the wait goes, just remember that the computerized testing has only been out for 12 years. There was a time when the test was offered twice per year, and it took three months to get back those results! Suddenly two days doesn't seem so bad, eh?

As for med-surg....WELCOME! I find it disappointing when I see new grads or about-to-be new grads talking about med-surg as if it were the last place on earth they'd ever want to be. Truthfully, *I* was pretty sure I didn't want to be here either, LOL, but boy have I changed my tune! I am more surgical than medical, but the amount of exposure I've had to so many different ailments and procedures, treatments is amazing. I really LIKE it, not just looking to "get a year of experience and move on". If the hospital's policies and understaffing don't kill me first, I expect to be a med-surg nurse for a whole pile of years :)

Having the questions go easy hard easy hard is probably a good thing. Because the test is similar to taking off with a small plane; first you gain altitude and then you are faced with stormy weather (hard questions) then clear (easy questions)alternating weather patterns, you only really get dinged alot if you have a succesion of questions you miss in a row and never regain altitude. Since you had a fair share of easy & hard questions and felt that the test wasn't too hard or way too easy...you probably passed. welcome to the club:balloons:

Breathe. Center. The power of intention..we create our reality...see this test as well done. Let us know when you get results you passed....and in the small event you did not, not a big thing, just take again.

Remember: All you need to know is in you and you are an excellent test taker.
