Hi. I just graduated in Dec '08 from the local university's 2nd Degree BSN program. I had taken the HESI exit exam for my school 3 times before I passed with an 871 in Nov '08. I took the NCLEX-RN for the first time today at 0800, and I stopped at 120-130 questions. I was really hoping to stop at 75, but that didn't happen.
I realized that now would be a good time to take the NCLEX since I scored high on the Kaplan Diagnostic and Readiness tests, which were 66 and 70 respectively. Mind you though, I took the course again, this time online in November, and I had taken the in-person class in July '08. Luckily though, I didn't remember any of the questions from the Diagnostic/Readiness tests from July, so I felt good.
Now, after taking this test, I really like I failed. I'm a little disappointed that I didn't stop at 75 questions, because overall, I was performing near the passing range for a lot of the 25 ques Quizzes from the Hogan Prentice Hall Comp NCLEX RN CD, and now this. I felt also like I didn't answer the last number of questions correctly.
I'm a little embarrassed. It took me 4 hours to complete this many questions, so nerves were kind of getting in my way. Although, I have to admit, I did sleep well last night. I just overviewed questions y'day morning, and I rested for the rest of the afternoon yesterday.
Now, I'm dreading getting my results, because I have to admit, I rushed a little bit toward the end when I felt like I probably would finish at 265 questions, which actually allowed me to spend at least a minute per questions. *LOL*!
Oh, and overall, I just got a lot of prioritization and drug questions. No calculations. I also didn't get any specific subject..in fact, I got a little bit of everything.
I guess my question is, did anyone experience something similar? I really thought HESI would be harder, but now I find NCLEX harder, but then again, when I got to the prioritization, I just predominantly chose airway problems predominantly over circulation like Kaplan recommended...HESI hardly had any prioritization.
I don't know..sorry, just had to vent. Thanks.

Hi! I totally feel your pain! I too graduated from a 2nd BSN program and did very well in school. I just took NCLEX today as well and had 120-130 questions! Prioritization and Pharm, No calculations! I too thought I would stop at 75, as many of my friends did and passed. I thought I was doing well but when I went passed 75, I was horrified and started to panic! I felt like I couldn't focus and didn't know if I was answering anything correctly! I know the number of questions doesn't matter but I'm still so anxious becasue I have so much riding on this and don't know how I'm going to make it through the next few days! I just went out and got a good movie and hopefully I can get to sleep tonight because I barely slept a wink last night! Good Luck to you! Let us know how it goes!

THAT MEANS NOTHING!! =D My best friend got 180 questions and passed the 1st time. I got 75 and failed the first time. She thought she failed and didn't. I thought I passed because I got 75 and didn't. LOL
You did your best and that was all you could do. Good Luck and try to relax. Rejoin the rest of the world!

Don't worry. Most leave the test feeling like they failed. The number of questions you get has absolutely nothing to with determining pass or fail. It only means that is how many questions you got. It only matters how many questions you answered right or wrong. The NCLEX is really hard to predict so do try to distract yourself with other things while you wait for your results.Hang in there. Good luck.
I passed!! Thanks for the support!
Congratulations! I also passed too! We're both very lucky!
