Happy School Nurse's Day! I do not know how I would get through it without my sisters here at allnurses!

Usually, my counselor gets flowers or something from my administration on counselor's week and nurse week just quietly comes and goes without a word! It gets frustrating!

Unfortunately, it coincides with Teachers' Week...

So, we just have to toot our own horns!!

I did get a nice little email from our Superintendant thanking me for my hard work during the H1N1 stuff-- was also forwarded to the school board.

Since our school district use health aides and nurses so we have "Health Services" day to recognize both health aides and school nurses. Well same here... No recognition.

Last year it hurt me to my heart when my boss got a card from the principal and I got nothing. I love my boss and she is great ! However, I'm the one who takes care of these kids on a daily basis, I'm the one who have to interact with the staff and parents every day. She's here one or two half days a week and I was here 5 days a week.

Well, never the less.... health room staff do go unnoticed and its sad.

There were some great suggestions last year about holding your own celebration of school nursing, inviting everyone to stop in the health suite during the day for a healthy treat. Hand out information about the value of a school nurse.

See the NASN Press page for possible handouts: http://www.nasn.org/Default.aspx?tabid=465

- school ratio ruler

- the school nurse ratio bill

- the NASN statement on the role of the school nurse

- caseload statement

I know what you mean, I have been recognized by some and then ignored by the same ones. Last year, our school secretary recieved an hour lunch(which I had to cover in the office for her) a hour massage and flowers. I recieved some flowers that were ordered at 1:00pm with me in the office. It was like an afterthought. Please don't get me wrong I love my secretary and thinks she deserves all this, I just wish that some thought would go into School Nurses.

This year, I am at 7-12 school based and think that it will end up being depressing. No one even knows what day it is.

So to all of my sistersand brothers HAPPY SCHOOL NURSES DAY!!!!!!!

Thank you for all of your hard work, may someone brighten your day both today and tomorrow!

i kinda had something neat this year! like most of you, sometimes i am remembered, sometimes not. but this year the secretaries made a reception with a cake. on the cake - it said thank you to the cnp's, teachers, nurse, and custodians. we got to all be recognized together.:yeah:

Remember what I said about Tooting our own Horns?

Well.... today I sent out an email to All Staff with the recommendations of the CDC/county for school closure as well as a little note about strep cases around the district.

THEN, I attached Shel Silverstein's poem "Sick" in honor of School Nurses Day.

I am now looking at a B-U-Tee-ful floral arrangement delivered to me from the district staff!

I'm sharing it with you all in spirit!!:icon_hug:

My day was not as depressing as I first thought it would be. My lead nurse snuck in and left me a clipboard with my initial and polka dots in my school colors.

I had others speak to me and it did brighten my day, even if where I am is cloudy and wet!!!!!!!!!

I love you all !!!!

Have a great day!!!!
