Hi everyone! i'm taking TNCC on january 13-14, and I have the manual for the course. Can anyone give me tips on how to prepare for the course....the book has like 500 pages and i am reading it, but i doubt if i can complete it in time- since i work full time

Can anyone tell me what to expect?

1) read the book

2) get plenty of sleep beforehand and pay attention during the class days

3) relax and just do it when the performance exam comes without worrying about it

4) remember, it's just a more extended CPR (A,B,C, etc.). they will show you over and over and over just what the letters stand for and what to do and in what order

5) the very worst that can happen is that you don't pass and have to do it again sometime (if you need the certification for some reason). nobody dies.

I was the only one in my class who had never worked (and never wanted to) in ER or critical care, and I passed it ok.

Talking about TNCC .... is it required that you work as an ER nurse to attend the class? Anyone know... I am in CCU but we frequently recieve overflow from our trauma unit and think it would be beneficial to attend one of these days...

Also...anyone know how to find out about registering..etc?

Anyone can take the TNCC. It is usually provided at one of the local hospitals. You might check with their nursing ed. depts. to see if they have one scheduled.

As for taking the TNCC. As was mentioned before, read the material, RELAX and listen in class. Take some deep breathes before during the practicals and don't second guess yourself. They want you to get the information and they want you to pass. You'll do great:)

TNCC is great! I learned so much, and I really enjoyed it. Try to relax, study the book as much as you can, but much of this course is taught in the lectures. I hope you have a good experience like I did.:)

What is TNCC? Thanks.

Trauma Nursing Core Course;)

Jed's Mom, Thanks! I'm sure learnng a lot around here! :)

Everyone is SO helpful!

TNCC is a great course for nurses who are new to the trauma area. ATLS (though a course for physicians) offers useful information. RNs can complete the course however LPNs are allowed to attend (audit the course)-----at least in SC. The reason is that our state board states that only RNs are licensed to perform assessments. (Guess they dont work the LPNs that I do..........dont know what I would do without them....learned bunches from them).

read your book, be ready for practical skills, relax, and enjoy the experience. You'll do just fine!!!!!!
