TNCC renewal the same as a new provider?

Published

I am set to renew my TNCC next month. My DON is telling us that guidelines have changed and people taking the class for the very first time will be taking the same class as people renewing. So I have to sit through a 2 day class to renew, like I have never taken it before. Anyone know if that is accurate?

Yes. But as far as I know there has never been a shorter "renewal" class in the first place so all of us who have had TNCC for awhile have always had to sit through the two day classes when recerting.

There were 10 or so in my TNCC class that were renewing and they had to take both days just like those of us that had never taken the class. I took TNCC in 2007.

I, too have had to take both days every time I renew. I figure if I only have to recert every 4 years, I probably could use a good review anyway.

It was an option to just do the second day the last time I took it but most just did both days for the review...

We are currently in the 6th edition of TNCC as of May this year. There was a renewal version for the most recent edition. It was a one day class which incorporated the "meat and potatoes" of the two day class. As of this time, a renewal version for the 6th edition has not yet been authored. However, anyone can show up to any class, and pass the written exam and trauma assessment station and pass the class without sitting through a single lecture; they won't get the full CEU complement, but they get a card just the same.
