TNCC Provider Manual, Textbook

Can you contact the course provider and see if they have a loaner book? I just saw the prices on Amazon ... good grief! An alternative idea would to be purchasing the pocket guide from the ENA website: https://admin.ena.org/store/item.asp?ITEM_ID=446&DEPARTMENT_ID=112 -- $35, or $22 for ENA members.

In the preface for the 6th edition, it discusses that there have been new chapters added (disaster management and triage for multiple casualty scenarios, updated airway and ventilation management, special populations, etc.). Sounds like a pretty decent overhaul from the 5th edition.

Hello Everyone,
I'm going to take the TNCC in December, and I'd like to get my hands on the textbook to prepare myself. The problem is, the price of the textbook is outrageous! Especially when I'll receive a new edition the first day of the course.
The fifth edition of the book is FAR cheaper than the current sixth edition on Amazon, eBay, etc. For those of you who've taken the TNCC before, is there a significant difference between the fifth and sixth edition textbooks? Could I just study the fifth edition and be fine with that?

They're not sending the book to you prior to the class? When I took ENPC we were mailed our books a couple weeks before the class. We were *strongly* encouraged to read through the book and be familiar with the material prior to coming to class.

Thank you both for your comments. I haven't paid for the class yet, so I can't get my book yet. I did talk to the instructor, however, and she said that, like your class hiddencatRN, they would mail them to us a couple of weeks early to allow us to study. I just don't have the money quite yet to pay for the whole class, and I'd like to have more time to study for it if possible.

I will contact the instructor when I'm able to pay and see if she can send my textbook a little bit earlier. If not, that pocket study guide sounds like a good suggestion.
