Just asking if anyone has had to deal with the Maryland board of nursing? Became a LPN last year and when It came time to renew my license this year, MBON decided to make us retake CHRC-background check all over again. Had to pay $70.00 dollars and now waiting for them to update it and it takes forever and in the mean time my job tells me it needs to be updated by the june 28th,2010. I'm a LPN stuck in Clinical Assistant II role and it requires me to renew both license CNA,LPN,plus repeating Background check it came to $165.00 and you can never get anyone on the phone from MBON.

I agree. Bureaucracies (such as boards of nursing) are pains in the butt because they often conduct business with such inefficiency and coldness.

Thought it might be better to keep my thoughts to myself for once because everyone that has ever dealt with them knows how they roll.

They are awful!! I passed the NCLEX last week and when you go to look up my license, there is no license # and it says "pending criminal background check". I'm trying to get a job that needs my license info by tomorrow and the website makes me look like Im under some kind of criminal investigation because they can't get their act together.

Sadly MD is not the only State like this. Many of them make things very difficult for Nurses. You next to never get to talk to an actual person, and if you do.. well they cannot help you, and the person who can is out of the office right now...

Well it must be a state license thing. Georgia Board of Nursing is no better. Passed my boards in April and my application is still pending. It is about worst as watching paint dry with boards of nursing.

Try emailing Barbara Newman at the MBON. I have contacted her many times, she ALWAYS responds in a timely manner and is very pleasant to deal with.:)

I contacted the Department of Health and Mental Hygeine who oversees the MBON and got the direct phone extension for the MBON Director. Left her a voicemail, guess what? No return call. I also e-mailed my congressman. I know it's a busy place, but we pay them with our application fees, renewal fees and taxes.....it's not right. My employer will not pay me my negotiated wage until I have an active license. It's stuck it that limbo "pending" status and I'm sooooooo frustrated.

Well, I'm in CA, I had similar problems with the board. When you know everything is okay, you have crossed your T's dotted your I's. Everything is clear. They lag, and lag, and you can't get to them. Our governor Schwarzenegger, has a page, one area is if you need help. So I e-mailed him, I got a letter back stating to put it in paper writing, sign it and fax it. They gave me the fax number. The day I got the that letter from his office is the day I received my letter that my license had been approved and it was sent. I don't know if his office had anything to do with it. But if the board is acting up, they have someone to answer to. If you have taken care of things and believe you have given them ample time, get congress or who ever you need to involved. In this economy, we need everyone working.

I've had insane difficulties with the maryland board of nursing. I spent an entire day calling every number on their website under "contact info" and not one person answered the phone. I left voicemails and sent emails. Never heard back. I am going to drive over an hour away to get to the board of nursing this week to actually speak to someone in person. I am not happy with MBON, can you tell? I had no problems with the DC board of nursing.

I haven't had any trouble with the MBON. I've talked to Donna Aversa at least two or three times, in person via phone, and once via email. I am applying for an out of state license and they have been very helpful. (Sometimes I've called/emailed a couple times before getting a response). Twice when I have called and left a message I've recieved a call back within 2 hours.
Please be patient with the BON--there's not many of them working there and they have a LOT of applications and licenses to process, especially in the months following graduation! :) If you're polite and empathetic to all the stuff they have to deal with (including the thousands of phone calls from anxious nurses), I'm sure they will be more than happy to help you out as soon as they can.
