Tips on getting into CUNY Summer Course

Published

Hi all,

I am a senior about to finish up my undergraduate education in NYC, with plans of hopefully getting into Columbia's EPT program (that is my top choice, I definitely have other schools in mind). I know I will need to complete pre-reqs beforehand. I recently visited the school for an informational interview and was advised to consider applying this year (end of 2015). She urged me to take two sciences this summer (Anatomy & Physiology I and Microbiology) along with taking the GRE to avoid the increase in applicants for next year. I had planned on talking my time with pre-reqs (I have four to complete Anatomy & Physiology I and II, Microbiology and Nutrition) and applying at the end of 2016. However, I am taking this adviser's suggestion very seriously and considering taking Anatomy & Physiology I and Microbiology this summer at a CUNY school.

With this in mind, my question is: Has anyone taken pre-req summer courses at any CUNY? What was your experience like? How did you ensure that you secured a seat in those highly competitive pre-health courses?

Many of the discussions surrounding this are about people who took pre-reqs at CUNYs to enroll in a CUNY nursing school, but what about those of you who went to a City College and applied to a nursing school outside the CUNY system?

Many of the deadlines are in March and April but I know it is important to be prepared much earlier so I would love to see your advise and learn about your experiences. Thank you for all your answers in advance!
