Time running out to finish NCLEX in 4 years, Do I have any options?

Do I start a nursing program all over again?

Long story short, I graduated nursing school about 4 years ago in AZ, failed the NCLEX the first time, and was planning on taking it again until family matters, health problems, personal problems, and divorce came along. Now I'm coming upon the period where my state (TX) will not allow me to take the NCLEX because my time is almost up. I would have to go through the nursing program all over again.

I really feel like giving up on life, there's just no light at the end of the tunnel for me.

Is this it for me, guys? Do I have other options here, maybe applying to another BON and register for NCLEX out-of-state? Would I have to notify my old nursing school from out-of-state that this happened? I don't know if they'll vouch for me if I ask them to send an Affidavit of Graduation.

Thank you all...

Is your goal to provide safe patient care?

Specializes in Cardio-Pulmonary; Med-Surg; Private Duty.

Check with your BON about your options. I know in my state, you have to take a "refresher course" of some sort if you don't pass the NCLEX within a certain period of time after graduation.

Your BON is the place with these answers, though...

Absolutely! Patient safety is number one. I mean, I have also been up to date on skills, up to date on nursing knowledge, policies, etc.

The option they told me was to re-take a nursing program. But I mean, if I do that, I guess I would have to apply to a nursing school in TX. I'm not sure what to make of it since I went to school in AZ. Maybe I can go to AZ instead? It's confusing, but I hope I'm not the only person in the US of A that went through this problem.

If you have never been registered, how have you have been able to keep update with your nursing skills? I think you will be better able to provide safe, competent, nursing care if you return to some kind of nursing school program rather then try to obtain a licence via loopholes with another state's BON.

Specializes in Med/Surg, Ortho, ASC.

Why wouldn't your school vouch for your graduation?

Perhaps a refresher course would count? I would call your BON and clarify what will and won't count.

You might be better to take courses or school over instead of going out of state to take NCLEX because many employers look at the year you graduated and ask why you have not worked as a nurse since you graduated.

Mostly time. It's been 4 years. But I think if I were to apply out of state instead, they'll help me.

TX doesn't have any refresher courses, and I don't think anyone in my shoes would want to go through nursing school again.

I found some on Google search for refresher courses
