This may be a short WGU inquiry

Published

I read somewhere that you would have to be an IN resident to do the pre-licensure BSN program. I'm interested but live in IL. With no plans to move, this may end my inquiries to the program. If not I will post a few more specific questions.

Can anyone with definite experience give me a clear answer so that I don't waste their time in applying?

I think you would need to drive to clinicals and skills labs that would take place in Indiana.

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

I believe that it is a hybrid program in which courses are entirely online, but hands-on clinical practicum rotations are conducted in healthcare facilities in Indiana.

Thank you for the replies. I understand the need to commute for labs and clinicals. Currently that's not a concern. It won't be a concern at all if they only enroll students from IN. This is why I'm asking about that requirement before I spend the time filling out an application and requesting transcripts be sent.

You can talk to an enrollment counselor via phone before you submit an application and request transcripts. This way, you'll get a definitive answer on whether you need to reside in Indiana.

Thank you, Commuter. I did call just before I posted. But I believe they were already out of the office for the weekend. Just wanted to get a headstart over the next couple days on requesting info from all my schools. I have taken all my pre-reques over ten years ago and thought I might get a jump on enrolling for micro and stats through StraighterLine.

Thought I might get a reply from someone that lives out of state from the program that either got accepted or denied enrollment.

Nope, I'm in the Indiana program and I live out of state. They will let you commute as long as you are fully aware that you are responsible to get to your clinicals and willing to commit to it.

I am a Clinical Instructor in the Indiana pre-licensure program. You do NOT need to live in IN- my clinical groups have had students who commuted from TN, MI and PA in the past. However, you DO need to come to IN to do skills labs and clinicals.
