This is why I love my job...

There are quite a few reasons to love being a school nurse, but -

My 15 year old comes down to my office every day during his study hall to grab a snack from "his" cupboard. He sits and visits for awhile....he's a teenager - I'll take any visiting time I can get!

My 12 year old daughter also stops in when she doesn't like lunch, and grabs a snack. She also emails me throughout the day for things she needs, things she is working on , etc.

And, my 10 year old is out for recess right now. He just came and knocked on my window. I slid it open and had a quick visit through the screen.

I'm not a helicopter parent - but being here when my kids want to talk....I couldn't ask for anything better!!

You bet. All 5 of my kids have come through my school and have moved on; priceless. I'm constantly reminded of them on various occasions and my minds eye replays moments of them being here. Absolutely priceless!

Yes. My sons pretended to be mortified when I first got the job, but they'd always give me the "wassup" head nod in the halls and stop in... For money!

If I leave it won't be until my younger son graduates. :)

I'm blessed to have two Grandkids at my school. Can't beat it when one comes in to give me a hug :)

This is great. All 3 of my kids went to the school where I work. However, they had moved on prior to me getting this job.

Like OldDude, I still can visualize them here at school. I spent a lot of time here when they were little. I remember thinking the nurse job here would be nice to have.

My daughter started kindergarten this year. It's awesome to have her come in with me in the mornings. Seeing her in the hallway always makes me smile. It also helps me to get the know the kindergarden classes and helps the normally shy little ones build some trust.

Very cool! I don't have my own kids in my school but I do have a few nieces and nephews which is really great (for them and me). I'll be sad when they're no longer here.

I know!!

I think I will DIE when my daughter leaves for high school! Most days she gives me a grin and a wave as her 6th grade class passes but I just LOVE it when she stops by and gives me a hug or asks for something from my bag or fridge!

Yesterday her bra strap broke (HA!) and I loved that I was right here and able to safety pin it together. I called her "ghetto bra" for the remainder of the day then we stopped to buy her new sports bras on the way home.:D

Turns out those little spaghetti straps don't cut it for the athletic kids.

Wow, your teenager wanting to chat - definitely take advantage of that! My daughter will be in kindergarten here next year. That was one of the best perks in taking this job! At her daycare/preschool events I have always been working, which made me feel bad. But now for the next 6 years I will be here for it all!

Their friends are funny, too.

Last year with The Big Kid's friends I was "Nurse Mom", as in "Heeeeeeey, Nurse Mom, can you write me a late pass?"

Me: No. Get your ass to class. I'm texting your mom.

I wish my babies could visit me at work!

They are furry and walk on all fours.

My kids are always begging me to work at their school! I'd love that. Next year my oldest will be at the junior high and the younger two will be in 3rd grade, so they won't be in the same school again until high school.
