Thinking I want to study nursing

Published

Hello all,

Just thinking I'd write out my list of reasons for wanting to be a nurse and gauging people's reactions to that:

  1. I want to help people in my job.
  2. Nursing is a fairly stable career in Australia with a decent income.
  3. I like to feel a sense of purpose in my job and nursing will give me that.
  4. It will give me the freedom to move around when i switch job locations.

That's about it really. Does anyone else feel the same, or even differently? Any new points?

I think those are great points to start with. As a nurse, you are making a difference in many peoples lives and it is very satisfying. One reason I love nursing is as you pointed out, it gives you freedom to move around-you can switch up your specialty, or even do travel nursing if you do not need to be tied down and want to experience other places.

Hi (:

I'm 17, currently living in London and I am going to study Child Nursing at university this September and I think the points you have written are very good. I hope to get 1st Class Honors in my Bachelor's of Science Degree and my Child Nursing degree [as you can see I am aiming for the stars]. I want to become a Neonatal Nurse in the future, because I love babies and I love helping other people. As a nurse you are helping other people and that's always a wonderful thing. As a nurse you can also travel the world and work in many different countries and places, which is really amazing. Also, when you do nursing you have a lot of career oppurtinities and nursing opens many doors for new oppurtinities, like you can become head nurse or you can work in management or in other places of the health care system. Nursing is amazing, because you have some many choices and can do much. And ultimately you can go home after a long day at work and know you've done a wondeful job that's helped other people and that's always an amazing feeling
