Things you would love to say to your fellow nursing students!

Published

Along the lines of the first thread, "Things you would love to say to your nursing instructors" I thought this would be a great thread to start. I've since graduated LVN but there was one main thing I wanted to say to some students in my class.

Will you people in the back row please stop talking! I swear that today I can still hear their motormouths running! :chuckle

When I am in the RN bridge I will come back and post some more. I'm sure some of you have something to get off your chest. Come on and unload here! :)

:spbox:

1) just because you have 21 years old with no life beside nursing school and study for hours a day to make an 'a', while i have three kids, a husband, and numerous other obligations and responsibilities and maybe squeeze in a couple of hours of study per test and make a 'b' doesn't make you smarter than me or some sort of nursing prodigy; especially when it is obvious in clinicals that you have no real passion for the profession and no compassion for the patients. making all a's in nursing school doesn't mean that you will be a better nurse than the rest of us; remember that life experience and a love for the job/patient's will always trump test grades! also, the fact that you feel that you have to blow your own horn and show off with your "impressive" medical terminology all of the time speaks for itself; you apparently have low self esteem. but i guess that you will learn that next semester in psych!?! or will you be totally oblivious just because you make an 'a' on that test as well? :bowingpur

:igtsyt:

2) for some (not all) of you 18-25 year old students that think that we "non-traditional" students that are in our 30's, 40's, and 50's (or beyond) are old and that you are superior to us because you started nursing school earlier in life; keep some keep things in mind. many of us have previously had very successful careers in other fields (i had one that my nursing pay will not even come close to touching for quite some time), some of us have or still are raising families, etc.;and some of us including myself have done all of the above! so get off your "look at all the old students" high horse and realize that we may just have an edge of you "young ones" in school and clinicals due to work and life experience that you are just beginning to acquire.

:dncgbby:

3) many people have posted similar statements to what i am about to end my complaints with, but here goes! stop thinking that you know it all, asking the teacher a billion questions that go far too far in depth just so that you will look like an expert or intellectual, and when you do ask those questions and you don't like the explanation that the instructor gives, quit trying to prove that you are right and the instructor is stupid!!!! sometimes i do not agree w/something that the instructor says, but guess what? she (or he), has an msn title after their name and you and i do not! that doesn't mean that they are always right, but if you feel the need to further discuss your difference of opinion with an instructor, please make an appointment w/them so that you can do it on your own time. the rest of us would like to move on and get out of class on time!

:hlk:

oh, i said that i was through w/my comments for fellow nursing students, but i almost left out the most important, annoying thing......

stop being a two-faced, back-stabbing, gossipping, trouble making drama queen!!!! geez, sometimes i feel like i have been transported back to junior high!!! grow up, get some of your own business and mind it instead of always trying to hate on someone that hasn't done a thing to you, just so you can entertain yourself!!! :flmngmd:

we are not here to make each other's lives miserable, so i wish some people would learn to behave like adults because it's a lot easier for us all to support, help, and wish each other well than to be in some kind of "catty" immature popularity contest! :yeah:

as for the rest of us, who are just trying to get through school successfully, doing our best dealing with our own unique set of circumstances and setbacks; while hopefully making a few good friendships with our fellow classmates along the way......let's "rock out" the rest of nursing school, help and support one another and become the best nurses we can be!!!! good luck to all!!! :clpty:

ok, i'm finally done "venting"..................................................thanks for starting the thread, it is very therapeutic!!! ;)

i love how the text of this got larger and larger! lol! good points too!

TO MY CLASSMATE AT CLINICAL LAST WEEK: DO NOT TRY AND STEAL A SURGERY AWAY FROM ME BECAUSE YOU THINK YOU ARE SO ENTITLED! WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?

When you come up and gossip to me about another classmate or worse, the CI, do not expect me to gossip back. I have no interest in gossiping about anyone in the program. You make yourself look like an orifice.

Is it over yet? I do not think that I can spend the next couple of years in the program with some of these people!

I would like to say to my instructors: YOU WOULD LIKE TO CALL YOURSELVES NURSES BUT HALF OF YOU ARE TEACHING THE WAYS OF 'LAZY' NURSE AND THE OTHER HALF YOU USE 'I DON'T KNOW' IN YOUR DIDACTIC EVERY WEEK SO WHY DO YOU TEACH? AND I LOVE THE ONES WHO SAY THEY CRINGE AT THE SITE OF BM, UM, WHAT KIND OF NURSE ARE YOU AGAIN? OH YEAH, AND THE DISCRIMINATIVE ONES. THE ONES WHO ARE VERY APPREHENSIVE IN HELPING 'CERTAIN STUDENTS' BUT FINDS COMFORT IN THE OTHERS. SENIOR INSTRUCTORS (65+) PLEASE RETIRE. YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT NURSING NOW, IT HAS EVOLVED. IM TIRED OF HEARING I DON'T KNOW COME OUT OF YOUR MOUTH.

-Oh yeah, stop acting as if you all care about who goes into the next level and who doesn't. You all could care less as long as you get paid and your program stays funded you don't give a damn who goes where in the nursing program.

To my fellow nursing students I would like to say:

I don't understand why some of you have such bad attitudes. I have never really heard of a nurse being a ***** but I guess it exists.

Why are some of you late to class and then get upset because you got behind because you missed vital information?

Some of you complain about seeing BM, emesis, blood, and catherization ok so tell me what branch of nursing are you going to go into?

Stop coming to class in shorts that look like panties, please.

STOP, and I mean please please STOP, asking stupid questions (i.e. "if we are giving a pt. a bed bath, how are supposed to soak the foot if they are lying down flat?)

lol, while i only read some of these posts and agree with some of the information. Right now the only thing i have to say is dont be afraid to ask questions, or rather ask yourself WHY, always ask why! because there you will NEVER know it all in nursing there is far to much to know and you will always be learning. For you students who like to talk in post conference and class, dragging on the class! please just stop this! we hate it! we want the info we need to be successful, not your stories, and we want the time managed well! not dragged on for your sake! As for the older people, the moms with children, those of you who have so many responsibilities, I look up to you so much! because i know you are working that much harder! keep it up! One last thing, if your in this job for the money! and you cant stand the site of certain things! GET OUT NOW! the pt.s dont want you here, I dont want you here, and you wont be happy here! thank you and good luck to all! keep up the good work!

To my fellow nursing students:

Hang in there!! I know it's rough, but you're more resilient than you give yourself credit for.

I'm here if you need me.

I try not to let other people get on my nerves but I've reached my limit. Disclaimer: this is about particular people in my program, and not general statements.

To those students that are repeating a course: do not tell me all the stuff you did, or jump at the first chance to inform me about something. How you can feel ahead of me, I will never understand. Clearly your method didn't work or you wouldn't be repeating the class.

And on the same vein....LPN students: I understand that you have a nursing license. I get that, and I respect it. That being said....the reason we're in the same courses now is because we're at the same level. We have the same clinical patients. At this point I could petition to take LPN boards but I don't see the point. Get off your high horse and deal. Don't get huffy when I offer to help you with your IV pump because you expressed uncertainty about programming it. That was me being NICE. But don't worry - it won't happen again. People wonder why I tend to stick with my own small group. Good grief.

I don't do study groups. I never have. It's too easy for me to get distracted with conversation, and I've got my study routine down pat. Don't get all butthurt when I politely decline your offer for the awesomest study session ever.

Okay I feel better now :D Maybe it's the change in weather or something....but my tolerance for people is at a serious low this week. Either that or people need to put their big girl/boy panties on. I'm hoping some sushi and sake tonight will cure me :yeah:

TO my fellow classmate:

STOP asking me my grade if your just going to get angry when you find out I did better then you please! This is NOT a compitition!

Man, what schools do you guys go to? The posts sound so negative!

I think many people treat allnurses as their emotional sewer and it gives off quite a smell sometimes.

It's pretty much a vent thread, you know, so people don't go all nutso on their fellow students at school. Because it's a vent thread you aren't going to see a lot of positive posts.

I didnt't read through the whole thing but I have to add this one.

I would love to say:

I don't care. I don't care that your cousins sister brothers nephews grandma had whatever disease process that we are discussing. I especially dont care that maybe your kid has it when it's five minutes before lecture is out and the instructor just might let us leave. I just don't care. Just shut up. Your voice makes me cringe. I hope I never have to work with you.

I feel so much better........

I would say this to nursing students in general. Well some of them. Stop acting like fisherman with the "my fish is bigger than your fish" stuff when it comes to your nursing program and how you're in one of the "hardest" in the country. I mean, have you attended all the other nursing programs out there to have something to compare it too. How hard a school is, is all about ones perception.
