Along the lines of the first thread, "Things you would love to say to your nursing instructors" I thought this would be a great thread to start. I've since graduated LVN but there was one main thing I wanted to say to some students in my class.
Will you people in the back row please stop talking! I swear that today I can still hear their motormouths running! :chuckle
When I am in the RN bridge I will come back and post some more. I'm sure some of you have something to get off your chest. Come on and unload here! :)
Please stop acting like you're kings and queens of the universe. Your ranting against the nature/delivery/content of our professor's lecture (or against the person of the professor themselves) does not change it. They are not as stupid as you seem think they are. They have field experience, first hand, for more years than some of you have been alive - quit whining and shut up. You might actually learn something.
"Why do you feel the need to brag about how you didn't study and made an A, when only last semester you were throwing such a dramatic sobbing fit because you worked so hard and were barely passing""If you are not going to study for a test, dont go out to eat during OUR study group and then show up right when we finish and expect us to teach you the material we have all been studying for the past 3 days when we only have 60 minutes until the test"
OMG i cannot STAND it when people do that! I had someone do that to me in one of my pre-req classes. He would come to class all freaking out 20 minutes before the tests and start asking me questions, or tell me to "quiz him". He'd constantly leave early or not show up at all, and then complain when he did bad in the class and had to take it over. Also constantly asking me to copy my notes, becuase he'd not shown up for class. Thank goodness we are split up this semester of nusring school for most of our classes and he's not bugging me anymore!
1. Stop complaining that you weren't explicitly told about the required readings or assignments that had to be completed before attending each lab. If you actually opened up your lab manual even once during the semester, you'd see that each lab is outlined in detail, including what chapters to read beforehand and what assignments to do!!
2. Right before our SECOND year health assessment exam, please don't ask me if asking someone to 'void' means asking them to leave the room...that really really worries me!
3. If you've decided to skip the past 6 classes of a Friday course because you're still passed out from Thursday night, don't expect me to provide you with a recap of everything we learned along with my notes.
4. That's great that you are/were an EMT, RPN, tech, etc.. but when the prof says something, please don't interrupt and say "Actually, where I work, we.....". You're the student now-remember that!
5. After the prof has just finished giving a thorough explanation for something, don't raise your hand and state in an exasperated tone, "I have NO idea what's going on" when for the past 15 minutes, I've been watching you go on Facebook, check your e-mail, buy a purse off eBay, chat on MSN, etc..
Ahhh, I feel much better! That was a much needed vent!!! :):)
Wow, so many disgruntled students!
I would like to say THANK YOU to my classmates, especially those I studied with before exams. I also want to say that I think they are a very smart group of people, and I think the vast majority will be great nurses that I would love my family to have as a nurse. Also, I will miss you all, now that we have graduated.
is it possible to put common sense test questions in the filtering process for possible NS students? cause alot seem to have none at all.
Its not all black and white. each patient is differant. each senario is differant. you need to learn the skill and know when to apply them. just because the answer was one thing on the test dosent mean thats the answer in real life!
chill out!!!!!!
grow up!!!!
Study!!!!
stop being so defensive!
Cheaters dont win, and winners dont cheat. hey next time you wanna cheat try this... read the text books and listen in lecture. the teacher and text give you ALL THE answers. just memorize it!
When the teacher states "pain is what the client says it is" do not proceed to argue "but what if you know they're drug seeking?" The only answer you're going to get is "pain is what the client says" Arguing your point for 15 minutes will not change the fact that as nurses we are not to withold pain meds if they are ordered by the physician, unless it is life threatening.
I would like to say:
"don't tell me that you don't have time to study and need to borrow my study guide after you just told me how much time you spend at the bar"
"stop talking in lecture, I am tired of hearing your voice on my recordings"
"if you don't want to deal with isolation patients, don't be a nurse" (a fellow student gripes and moans every time he gets a patient that is not self care or is in isolation)

OMG! Are you in my study group! I have a person who comes and finds my study group prior to tests/quiz and wants to know what we thougt was important because she didn't study at all! She then actually brags about not studying and just listening to "others" before the tests. We have started to hide from her!
