They won't let me get my BSN

I have a ADN but because of immigration issues I wasn't issued a liscense. I currently want to pursue my bachelors in nursing but all the schools are requiring a liscence. I don't know when my immigration issues will be resolved but I also don't want to waste time doing nothing as I wait. Does anyone here know if I will be allowed to get my bachelors without my liscense? i live in NYC.

If you wish to obtain your BSN, you will need to start all over, unless you wish to wait for immigration to finish. To obtain your BSN with an ADN, you must have a license to practice nursing. This is required in all states.

Start over? oh hell no, I will definately wait. But I am a believer there is another way. Thank you for your opinion.

It is my understanding that when you apply to a higher degree level program, if you have a professional license at a lower level, they will want to see that license regardless. They will want to investigate the status of that license. How do they know, for instance, that you are not under some charges for something? You may be stuck waiting on the prior license or, if for some reason, you can't get it at all, you may have to really start over.

If I were you, I would do my best to keep on top of the immigration problem (and we know that sometimes these problems can take years to resolve) and start taking the upper level classes that can be got out of the way before you start your BSN program. Good luck.

Read your reply about starting over before my post posted. Never say never. Many a person has had to totally repeat a course of study in order to get what they need. It's not meant to be easy or fair, just what must be done in some circumstances. Or, alternatively, find another line of work.
